Sablewood Paper Company

Sablewood Paper Company Fall in love with the details. Spreading joy through thoughtfully-designed invitations, calligraphy, and wedding pieces.

I'm a native of sunny Vero Beach, Florida now living just north of Seattle, Washington. I've always had a passion for eye-catching and beautiful design...and could never get enough of fun or pretty gifts! As a calligrapher and graphic designer, I've been able to combine two of my loves and can create custom pieces for your home, beautiful one-of-a-kind invitations, or other wedding/special event pieces just for you!

Fluffy and plantable handmade paper in the dreamiest shade of pink. Hand-drawn illustrations. Printed photos, trimmed individually. Oh, and add a pair of swans because they mate for life 🦢❤️

These save the dates are so special and what’s coming will be even more gorgeous! A big thank you to the bride for letting me share this since I’ve been on pins and needles to do so! 🥰

Hi, I’m Holly, the owner of Sablewood Paper Company! I started this business in 2015 back in my home state of Florida with a bunch of hand painted wood signs and a dream.

Since then, we’ve moved 3,000 miles across the country to Seattle and Sablewood has grown into a full-time career. I’ve mailed thousands of invitations and have probably seen it all! (I can also probably answer any burning question you have about USPS, so ask away 😅)

I’ve been married to the love of my life for almost 11 years and we have four cats (it’s a long story).

Fun fact: my husband and I grew up in the same town and dated briefly in high school!

I’m also a writer, will correctly abuse an em dash until the end of my days, and live for an Oxford comma. I’m always reading (currently on Crescent City book 2!) and my husband is building me a library of my dreams in our new house.

Right now, I’m working with the most amazing clients with big dreams, incredible ideas, and so much trust. Can’t wait to show you all! ❤️

As a creative, the best job you can have is one that’s always changing. That’s definitely the case with wedding invitation design!

Every couple I talk to has their own idea of the perfect design.

For some, it’s clean and elegant with lots of white space. Minimalist. Traditional.

For others, it’s full and lush and bursting with color and illustrations.

Both are a dream to design for different reasons. Then there are the couples who ask for something brand new: something that requires research. (Seriously, this is the best thing ever.)

This couple asked for a deer on their invite. Sure, I said, and drew a deer.

Reader: it was the wrong kind.

I didn’t know there was a wrong kind of deer, but there was, so I went down a rabbit hole. I took photos of the deer in question from every angle. I studied what made it different from the deer I drew originally.

And when I presented the illustration to the couple, they loved it. (Whew!) And now? Now I know more about deer than before, and all because of a career designing wedding invitations.

As a creative, you never know where your job will lead you. You just know that it takes you to amazing places. ❤️

Sablewood has been named a finalist for ’s Best Of 2026 and, well, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude 😭

When I saw my name listed, my first thought was: this is the start of a new season for Sablewood.

The last 18 months have been hard on a personal level. I pretty much disappeared from social media, sticking to sharing stories more than posts or reels. I didn’t take on styled shoots (I usually do several per year). I didn’t send any newsletters, didn’t promote my products.

Apart from my family, my clients were the most important thing to me, so I focused on them. They’re the best and always have been. 🫶🏻

For those that don’t know, it’s just me running things behind the scenes here at Sablewood. I do everything: all of the illustrations, the designs, assembly, and mailing. The client meetings, the proposal writing. I designed my own website and keep it running (try to! 😅), and I do all of my own marketing. I pay all of the bills and do all of the cleaning at the studio.

No one helps me, but I have a lot of support. Friends in the industry (shoutout to my Seattle stationers), , my non-industry friends and family—they’ve all been an amazing group to keep close.

So being named a finalist is making me feel all of the feels, because taking a step away from social media/marketing your business online is one of the worst things you can do as a business owner.

Because how can you be relevant if you’re not out there?

But it’s not about relevance. It’s about relationships and community and staying in your lane to create the best version of your business that you can.

And sometimes, after a decade of long hours and actual tears and more paper cuts than you thought possible, you can feel a blossoming in your business: a new chapter.

That’s what being named a finalist means to me, and I’m so grateful for all of the love and support that Washington has shown me ❤️

I love watching others work, so I’ve been trying to let you guys in on a few projects!

Sometimes this just isn’t doable due to deadlines, client confidentiality, or just plain ol’ forgetting in the excitement of things, but I knew I had to film some bits while finishing these adorable booklets for a 15th anniversary party!

Congrats, J+T!

Working with non-paper materials is a skill, and one that takes lots (and lots) of practice to get right. Cleaning, spraying, testing and re-testing. Buying new materials because what you have won’t work.

And sometimes, like in the case of these oyster shells, it also takes scrapping the original plan of handwriting each name and switching to vinyl 🙈

(Ignore those blank oysters sprinkled in there, they were weird little guys and no names would fit on them 🤣)

Let me tell you a secret about custom cocktail napkins: they’re less expensive than you think!

(And maybe an unpopular opinion, but if I had to choose between a welcome sign and custom cocktail napkins, I go with napkins every day. Yes, welcome signs make for a cute photo, but your guests will be talking about a cleverly designed napkin all night 😉)

Get yourself a stationer that individually irons 100 linen menus in her hotel room the day of the event 😂 all jokes aside, I LOVE fabric and would use it forever!
