In 1992 TARA Labs invented the idea of using small leads to connect the left and right channel shields. This connection system was intended to 'common' any RF/EMI noise in the L/R channels, at the shield 'float' end. This is done to improve image focus and image outlines along with better channel to channel imaging. Normally, each interconnect channel, left or right, floats the shield at one end and, and at the other end, the shield is connected to circuit ground. But there may be a difference in HF noise in one channel, and so the floating ends should be connected together to 'common' any difference in the channel to channel RF/EMI noise. The remaining problem with this approach is that the shield remains connected to circuit ground in an RCA/RCA unbalanced interconnect. In the mid-1990's TARA Labs found a way to isolate the shield from circuit ground and the conductor path. This requires the shield to float at all 4 ends, and at the source end the shield can be isolated in a new product called the 'Floating Ground Station TM' The FGS is introduced to take the RF/EMI noise to ground at a remote point away from the circuit ground. This is the new system of cable grounding... The shield goes to component called Floating Ground Station (FGS). Inside the FGS are metal/ceramic devices called "Ceralex"TM that absorb high-frequency noise. Then a small lead from the FGS takes the remaining noise to ground. All of this happens outside the signal path and the ground path is isolated and not connected to circuit ground. TARA Labs operates and manufactures all their cables in Oregon, USA.
