It’s because the film doesn’t shy away from the dark places life inevitably takes us that it remains resoundingly joyful, writes Sara Shukla.

The creative visions of kids are just incredible! I had the great delight of designing a "T-Rex and Godzilla baseball" themed birthday invitation for a spectacular kid. Who do you think would win America's favorite past-time: a team of T-rex or Godzillas?

One of my very first (and dearly beloved!) freelance clients was Available Light Theatre and I am SO UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED that AVLT is returning to the Columbus Arts community for a one-night-only performance of WHITE RABBIT RED RABBIT on March 13.

The artwork for WRRR is one that I created a few years ago for AVLT when they hosted a dozen or so performances of this amazing and unique project, but I still love it so dearly.

More info about the return of AVLT at:

There is no Director. We have held no rehearsals. Ian Short, our intrepid performer for the night, has not even read the script; he’s simply not allowed. The script is sealed in an envelope, and will be handed to him for the first time after he steps onto the stage.

Invitations, save the date postcards, and baby announcements hold a special place in my heart because I've always created these things for myself. I love getting to create them for other people. I recently had the pleasure of putting together this tea time birthday invitation for a client's daughter.

**For their privacy, I've changed all personal information to be that of Samantha Parkington from the American Girls series. Nerd alert.**

Have an invitation or announcement in need of a design? Zip me a message and let's chat.

Resume refreshes (and cover letters!) are one of my favorite things to do!! I love getting to chat with someone about their professional experience, skills, strengths, and aspirations. My job then is to wordsmith and brag on them!! We usually start from a previously resume and work on not only refining the content, but overhauling the design to make it reflective of their personality in a manner that will stand out from a stack of bland black text on white paper resumes.

Enjoy this recent resume overhaul for a client who is transitioning from her career as a Senior EA to a talent management specialist. Her personal information has been removed and replaced with references to THE GOOD PLACE, a show that holds a special place in both our hearts.

I always wanted to be Leslie Knope (see my brief stint working for the Upper Arlington Parks Department....) but in real life I'm definitely an Ann Perkins. Local politics are my jam, and I hold so many opinions and optimism.

That being the case, I was so honored and elated to design a basic set of branding assets for Vote Retterer's campaign for School Board in Springboro, OH.

I went to college with Brian and his wife Heather in the Ohio Northern Theatre Dept and have been in awe of their passion for fostering/adoption. Brian is also an advocate of technology accessibility in the school district and LGBTQIA+ rights for students. If you caught that note about his major, it should be no surprise that he is also a huge advocate of the Arts.

Thanks for trusting me to create your campaign artwork, Brian!! It was an absolute pleasure for this political nerd.

Hey there, y'all – I'm the Meg of "Creative by Meg." One woman creative operation. Mom. Spouse. Grower of plants. Television nerd. All around communications and administrative operations specialist. I'm a recovering "gifted kid" and an introverted extrovert.

Although I've been designing and copywriting/editing for the last 10years in a professional capacity, I often feel a heavy dose of imposter syndrome because I don't have a degree in either graphic design or writing (!!!!) And sometimes it's hard to let my experience and the portfolio speak for itself. In addition to freelance work, I spent four years as a graphic designer and content writer with The Ohio State University School of Music and five years as the in-house graphic designer for Available Light Theatre.

I absolutely love helping take a project from initial concept to completed product! Have a creative project in need of assistance? Feel free to drop me a message.

I miss theatre. It's what my degree is in. Watching, performing in, designing for it.... I love it all. For the last five years I've designed season imagery and content for Available Light Theater. Like theatres across the country, they had to postpone their productions until Covid-19 is no longer a pandemic. Thinking about them and about this piece of artwork for a production I so dearly wanted to see -- it was my favorite piece I designed for their 2019-2020 season 💕

The words "Robin & Peter Hersha present Cry It Out" are in white serif text, centered, below the diagram.]

Never stop learning. Today I spent some time playing with Photoshop to uncover some features I haven't had reason to use in the past. Photos of Polaris Fashion Center, given a 'watercolor/painting' treatment.

[Image: Image 1 is of a Polaris fashion place walkway at night, the shops are lit up and people are walking with various bags. The image has received a treatment to make it look like a watercolor on a white canvas background. Image 2 is of Polaris fashion place entrance in daytime. The entrance has several white columns and a large oval sign that reads "Polaris Fashion Place." Three large circular planters are in front of the building. The image has been given a treatment to look like a watercolor on white canvas background.]

I absolutely love when my neighborhood pride intersects with my work! I recently had the pleasure of creating a logo for the historic Franklinton Log Post Office –– Franklin County’s oldest building still on its original foundation.

Built in early 1807, the Franklinton Post Office is the oldest known building in Franklin County standing on its original foundation. This two-story log home on South Gift Street was built by David Dearduff, who ran the first post office in Franklin County from the West room of the house. The post office operated there until October 20, 1834 at which point the Columbus post office took over operations.

An addition to the rear of the home was constructed in the 1860s and various families lived in the home until it was condemned in the 1950s. The current owner purchased the home in 1979 to save it from being demolished, and it was added to the Columbus Register of Historic Properties in 2001. The second photo shows the building in disrepair circa late 1950s, courtesy of Ohio Exploration dot com.
