In a dystopian future, memory is strictly controlled by global corporations. An aging, reclusive engineer, Elias, is assaulted in the rain-slicked streets by a young, ambitious corporate operative, Vax, working for Neon-Corp. Vax aims to seize a localized memory drive—a vintage pocket watch—containing the only existing digital imprint of Elias's late wife. As a crowd watches, their eyes glowing red as they live-stream the event to the corporate net, Vax mocks the old man's fragility.
Elias, beaten but not defeated, activates an old, pre-collapse emergency protocol on his data-ring. The signal doesn't call the police; it awakens "The Void"—a legendary, dormant collective of original "Ghost Hackers" who built the network before the corporations took over. In a dynamic reveal, the city's infrastructure turns on Vax, and massive, menacing digital entities materialize in the physical world, surrounding the operative. Elias's old allies, the legends of the net, have arrived for retribution.
