🔍 How to Check a Link Before You Click

Phishing scams love disguising fake links to look real. One wrong click could expose your accounts or install malware.

Here’s how to protect yourself:
✅ On Computer: Hover over the link to see the full URL before clicking.
✅ On Mobile: Long-press a link to preview the real address.
✅ Check the domain: The root domain (just before .com/.net/etc.) shows who really owns the site. Example:

login.paypal.com → Legit
paypal.secure-login.com → Fake

📍 A few seconds of caution can save you a world of trouble.

The most important part of a link is the root domain — the last two pieces before “.com” (or .org, .net, etc.).

Hackers are sneaky with domain names. They buy ones that look almost identical to real sites, hoping you won’t notice. This trick is called typosquatting or domain spoofing.

Common tricks include:
🔹 Adding a dash → realbank.com ✅ vs real-bank.com ❌
🔹 Doubling a letter → paypal.com ✅ vs paypall.com ❌
🔹 Using similar letters → rnicrosoft.com (RN instead of M) ❌
🔹 Adding an extra word → realbank-secure.com ❌

Why does this work? Because the fake site usually looks exactly like the real one — logos, login pages, even the padlock symbol. The only difference is the address bar. And once you type your password, it’s stolen.

👉 How to protect yourself:

- Always check the spelling of the web address before logging in.
- Don’t trust links in emails or texts — type the site name manually.
- Use a password manager. It won’t autofill on a fake site.
- When in doubt, close the window and go directly to the official site.
- Cybersecurity is about noticing the little things. Hackers bet you won’t. Prove them wrong.

Scammers are sending texts claiming you have an unpaid toll. The link takes you to a fake payment page designed to steal your credit card info.

✅ How to spot it:
