Scam Alert!!!!!! Microsoft will NEVER call you for support.
so I got a call from 1-773-928-2888 claiming that they were from the "Microsoft Store" saying that my computer had "downloaded" some malicious software and that I needed to do the following in order to "get help" (DO NOT RUN THIS COMMANDS ON YOUR COMPUTER) I decided to play along to see where this goes and get some more info:
1st Press and hold the windows key and press R.
2nd In the "Run" window type in eventvwr.
Now a quick google search of this command and the scams will show up right away.
After I called his bluff he asked me to run another command.
From Command Prompt run assoc
That runs through a long list of file associations, telling you (for instance) that “.xltx=Excel.Template”
Since it’s a long file it scrolls straight to the bottom, but if you’re really interested in seeing exactly what it contains, you can get it to go through page by page by typing in “assoc | more”: however, the scammer wants you to go straight to the bottom so that you’ll see this entry:
ZFSendToTarget=CLSID{888DCA60-FC0A-11CF-8F0F-00C04FD7D062}
now that last number is the same on all computers running a recent version of windows.
If you fall for this scam they will get acces to your computer.
Microsoft will NEVER call you for support.
