If Mail on your Mac stopped syncing with Microsoft 365 this month and your iPhone is still fine, you're not imagining it.
On October 1, Microsoft started blocking Exchange Web Services (EWS) in Microsoft 365. It's an older connection that a lot of apps still use to get into mailboxes. Outlook keeps working, so most people don't notice right away. What breaks is the stuff around it: Apple Mail on Macs, some scanner and copier workflows, CRM and calendar syncs, older backup tools.
There's a short-term fix. An admin can allow specific apps to keep using EWS until April 1, 2027. After that, Microsoft shuts it off for good.
If something stopped working at your office and you can't figure out why, send us a message. We wrote up what's affected, how to tell if EWS is behind your problem, and a checklist for getting off it before April:
EWS retirement began Oct 1, 2026. See what breaks when Microsoft 365 blocks Exchange Web Services, and how to fix it before April 1, 2027.
