This Day in History: September 4, 1998 — Google Is Founded

On September 4, 1998, Larry Page and Sergey Brin officially incorporated a company that would completely change the way we use the internet:

Google.

Google actually began a few years earlier while Page and Brin were students at Stanford. Their original search engine was called Backrub, and it analyzed links between webpages to help determine their importance. Eventually, Backrub became Google—and the rest is internet history.

Today, Google has become such a normal part of everyday life that "Google it" is practically our default response when we need information.

Looking for somewhere to eat? Google it.
Need a plumber? Google it.
Looking for a nearby store? Google it.
Need a roofer, realtor, barber, bakery, hotel, or web designer? Google it.

And that completely changed the way businesses compete.

That's Where SEO Comes In.

Having a great website doesn't do much good if your potential customers can't find it.

When someone searches for something like:

"web designer near me"
"roofing company Lexington KY"
"plumber Wi******er KY"
"best restaurant near me"

They're usually looking for a solution, not necessarily a particular company.

That's why Search Engine Optimization matters.

SEO helps search engines understand what your business does and helps put your website in a better position to appear when potential customers are searching for the products or services you offer.

Your content, keywords, website performance, mobile experience, links, reviews, Google Business Profile, and overall digital strategy can all play a role in how easily customers find you online.

At Thoroughbred Innovations, we help businesses build websites that aren't just designed to look good.

They're designed to get found.

Because 28 years after Google was founded, one thing is pretty clear:

Your customers are searching. The question is whether they're finding you—or your competition.

What's the first thing you remember Googling?

Your Summer Marketing Worked… Now What?

It may still be hot enough outside to make us question whether fall actually exists, but there’s no denying it…

Fall is right around the corner!

Maybe your summer marketing strategy knocked it out of the park. Your website traffic increased, customers found you on Google, social media engagement was strong, and the phone kept ringing.

First of all—that’s great!

But successful digital marketing isn’t something you turn on for one season and forget about until next year.

Summer success doesn’t guarantee fall success.

Don’t Let Your SEO Fall With the Leaves

Search rankings can change. Competitors can improve their websites. Search trends evolve. Content becomes outdated.

If you stop working on your SEO simply because your summer strategy worked, you could eventually start watching those hard-earned rankings slip.

And fall brings plenty of opportunities for businesses.

Halloween brings events, parties, seasonal products, restaurants, entertainment, and local searches.

Thanksgiving means travel, catering, restaurants, home services, family gatherings, and holiday preparation.

Christmas shopping starts earlier than you think. Customers will soon be searching for gifts, services, restaurants, events, travel, and everything else they need for the holiday season.

And before they ever walk through your door…

They're probably going to Google it.

That means now is the time to start thinking about your fall strategy.

Update seasonal website content.
Research fall and holiday search trends.
Keep your Google Business Profile accurate.
Make sure your website works beautifully on mobile.
Check your website speed and performance.
Continue publishing useful, optimized content.
Prepare promotions and landing pages before customers start searching.

Think of SEO like tending a garden.

You don't spend all summer watering it, finally get everything growing beautifully, and then suddenly say:

"Well, my work here is done."

Digital marketing requires consistency.

At Thoroughbred Innovations, we help businesses build strategies designed to keep working from one season to the next with award-winning web design, SEO, Local SEO, website optimization, and digital marketing.

Your summer marketing worked.

Now let's make your fall marketing even better.

Because Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas will be here before we know it—and your customers are already starting to plan.

Business owners: Are you already preparing your fall and holiday marketing, or are you still firmly in summer mode?

What Makes A Good Business Website? The Essential Elements Every Small Business Needs
A business website can be beautiful and still fail at its job.
It can have impressive graphics, modern animations, professional photography, and a polished color scheme. But if potential customers cannot find it on Google, understand what the business offers, navigate it easily, or figure out how to contact the company, attractive design alone doesn't accomplish much.

Happy American Chess Day!

Today we're celebrating one of the world's oldest and most famous strategy games: chess!

Chess may look simple at first—two players, 64 squares, and 32 pieces—but anyone who's played knows there's a LOT happening on that board.

Every move matters.

A good player isn't only thinking about what they're doing right now. They're thinking about what their opponent might do next, how they'll respond, and sometimes planning two, three, or even more moves ahead.

Come to think of it...

Chess and web design have a lot in common.

You need a strategy.
Moving random pieces around the board probably isn't going to win you many chess matches. Building random webpages without considering SEO, user experience, navigation, and conversions isn't going to win you many customers either.

You have to think several moves ahead.
A great website isn't designed only for what your business needs today. You have to consider where your business is going, what customers will need, how search behavior might change, and how the website can grow alongside you.

Every piece has a purpose.
Your homepage, service pages, blog posts, calls-to-action, contact forms, images, internal links, and keywords all have different jobs—but they need to work together toward the same goal.

Small mistakes can have BIG consequences.
One careless move can completely change a chess match.

Web design isn't much different.

A broken link, slow-loading page, confusing menu, poorly chosen keyword, missing call-to-action, or technical SEO problem might seem small...

Until your rankings drop or customers start leaving your website without contacting you.

You have to understand the competition.
Chess players study their opponents. Good SEO strategies do too. Knowing what your competitors are doing—and where opportunities exist to do it better—is an important part of competing online.

And ultimately... you're playing to win.

Your website shouldn't just sit on the board.

It should have a purpose, a strategy, and a plan for turning searches into visitors and visitors into customers.

At Thoroughbred Innovations, we approach web design and SEO strategically—thinking beyond the next move and building websites designed for long-term success.

Because when you're competing for customers and Google rankings...

You don't want to play checkers while everyone else is playing chess.

Make the right move.
Thoroughbred Innovations is ready to help.

Are there any chess players out there? What's your favorite piece on the board—and most importantly, who taught you how to play?

Is Your Website Ready for the Fall Rush?

Tomorrow is September 1st, and while the calendar may say summer for a few more weeks...

Fall is practically here!

School is back in session. Football season is kicking off. Fall festivals are around the corner. Halloween decorations are already appearing in stores, Thanksgiving will be here before we know it, and then comes the biggest shopping season of the year.

For businesses, the next few months can bring a LOT of opportunity.

But here's the question:

Is your website ready for the fall rush?

Is your information up to date?
Make sure your hours, prices, products, services, photos, and contact information are accurate before customers start searching.

Can your website handle increased traffic?
A slow website is frustrating any time of year. During a busy season, every extra second can mean a lost customer.

Is it ready for mobile shoppers?
Whether they're sitting at a football game, walking through a fall festival, or shopping from the couch, your customers are searching from their phones.

Can customers actually find you on Google?
Great SEO doesn't happen overnight. If you want to be visible when people start searching for fall and holiday products or services, the work needs to start before the rush.

Are your seasonal promotions ready?
Fall sales, Halloween specials, Thanksgiving offers, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Christmas promotions will all be here sooner than you think.

Is it easy to become a customer?
Clear navigation, strong calls-to-action, easy contact forms, and a smooth shopping experience can make the difference between a visitor and a sale.

Think of your website like preparing your house for fall.

You don't wait until the first freezing night to discover the furnace doesn't work.

Don't wait until your busiest season to discover your website isn't ready either.

At Thoroughbred Innovations, we can help prepare your business for the months ahead with award-winning web design, SEO, Local SEO, website optimization, and digital marketing.

Summer may be winding down...

But for businesses, things are just starting to heat up.

Get ready now.
Get found this fall.
Turn the seasonal rush into business growth.

What are you looking forward to most this fall—football, cooler weather, changing leaves, Halloween, or pumpkin-spice EVERYTHING?

This Day in History: August 24, 2006

The day our solar system lost a planet.

On August 24, 2006, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) made an intergalactic decision that still baffles people—and sparks surprisingly heated debates among scientists, former classmates, and space enthusiasts—20 years later.

They officially reclassified Pluto from a planet to a dwarf planet.

Discovered by American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh in 1930, Pluto had spent 76 years as the ninth planet in our solar system. Then scientists discovered more Pluto-like objects in the outer solar system, forcing astronomers to confront a surprisingly difficult question:

What actually makes something a planet?

The IAU ultimately adopted a formal definition requiring a planet to orbit the Sun, be massive enough to become nearly round, and clear the neighborhood around its orbit.

Pluto met the first two requirements. It didn't meet the third.

And just like that... Pluto was demoted.

After decades of being displayed on classroom walls, printed in science textbooks, and memorized by generations of students, our solar system officially went from nine planets to eight.

And people STILL haven't gotten over it.

Seriously.

Tell someone Pluto isn't a planet and see how quickly you accidentally start an argument.

But you might be wondering... "What in the world does Pluto have to do with SEO?"

More than you'd think.

Imagine your website has been sitting comfortably at #1 on Google.

You're getting traffic. Customers are finding you. Life is good. You feel like a planet.

Then suddenly, Google rolls out an algorithm update. A competitor improves their SEO. Search intent changes. Your website develops technical problems. Your content becomes outdated.

And suddenly... Your #1 ranking is gone.

Welcome to Pluto.

SEO rankings are never permanently guaranteed. You can dominate a search result today and find yourself several positions lower tomorrow.

That's why successful SEO isn't something you do once and forget about.

It requires monitoring, fresh content, technical maintenance, keyword research, competitor analysis, quality backlinks, and a strategy that evolves alongside search engines.

Pluto spent 76 years comfortably sitting in the planetary lineup...

Then the rules changed.

Google changes the rules too.

The difference?

We can actually do something about your rankings.

If your website has been pushed into the dwarf-planet section of Google's search results, Thoroughbred Innovations is here to help get you back into the Internet planetary lineup.

Because your business deserves better than floating around somewhere beyond Neptune where nobody can find it.

And now for the REAL debate:

Is Pluto a planet?

YES — Pluto will ALWAYS be the ninth planet.

NO — The science has spoken.

(We'd like to join in on this discussion and say Pluto is, and will always be, a planet!)

What Makes Someone Trust a Website?

Think about how quickly you judge a website.

You click a link, the page loads, and within just a few seconds you're already deciding:

"Does this business look legitimate?"

"Would I feel comfortable buying from them?"

"Do I trust these people enough to call them?"

Your customers are making those exact same decisions when they visit your website.

So, what actually makes a website feel trustworthy?

Professional Design
First impressions matter. A clean, modern, professionally designed website tells visitors that your business takes itself—and its customers—seriously.

Fast Loading Speeds
If your website takes forever to load, visitors may wonder how well the rest of your business operates. A fast website feels polished, professional, and dependable.

A Great Mobile Experience
If someone has to pinch, zoom, or fight with buttons just to navigate your site, trust can disappear quickly. Your website should work beautifully on every screen.

Real Customer Reviews
People trust other people. Testimonials and positive reviews provide social proof that real customers have chosen your business and had a great experience.

Clear Contact Information
A real phone number, email address, location, contact form, and business information reassure visitors that there are actual people behind the website.

Website Security
That little padlock matters! HTTPS and proper website security help protect visitors and show them they're browsing a legitimate, professionally maintained website.

Accurate, Helpful Content
Spelling mistakes, outdated information, broken links, old promotions, or inaccurate business hours can make visitors question what else might be outdated.

Easy Navigation
Customers shouldn't need a treasure map to find your services, products, pricing, or contact page. Make it easy for them to find what they need.

Experience & Credibility
Awards, certifications, professional affiliations, years of experience, case studies, and other trust signals help answer one important question:

"Why should I choose YOU?"

Here's the important part...

You can have the best products, services, and customer service in your industry—but if your website doesn't communicate that credibility, a potential customer may never give you the opportunity to prove it.

Your website isn't just a digital brochure.

It's often your business's first handshake.

Make it a good one.

At Thoroughbred Innovations, we build professional websites designed to establish trust, provide a great user experience, rank in search engines, and turn visitors into customers.

Because when someone lands on your website, you don't just want them to think...

"This looks nice."

You want them to think...

"This is the company I want to work with."

Take a look at your website through a customer's eyes today.

Would YOU trust it?
