We've also reached the point where AI running on binary computers is scheming. Adding AI to quantum computers could potentially ruin humanity. Have we taken this too far? What are your thoughts?

Today's repairs on this laptop included refreshing the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU as well as replacing the worn out keyboard.

After a lot of use in various temperatures, thermal paste loses it's efficiently. If you find that your computer or laptop is running warmer than usual, sometimes a simple fix is cleaning the heatsinks and CPU/GPU dies with isopropyl alcohol and reapplying thermal paste. Don't forget to replace the thermal pads while you're in there. These were also worn out. After replacing, the CPU dropped from 95 degrees Celsius (where it thermal throttled to save itself and impacted performance heavily) down to 42 degrees Celsius. The GPU went from an idle of 36 degrees Celsius to also around 42 degrees. The reason for the increase is that the heat pipes are shared through the cooler fins and the CPU wasn't getting cooled. Since the GPU wasn't performing any tasks, it didn't heat up nor received heat from the CPU. Now they are both heating and cooling at the same temperatures.

They keyboard wasn't as easy. This laptop was an MSI Stealth GF65 10UE. The manufacturer decided to melt the plastic to hold in the backplate with the keyboard and LED backlight. If you have this or a similar model, you'll need to either melt or break the plastic to get it out. However, if you break the plastic and don't retrieve it to melt it back in place, your keyboard will sink down after reassembly. EdenTech recommends using a soldering iron for this task. After reassembling the entire laptop, the keyboard only worked on a couple of keys. Upon closer inspection of the end of the ribbon, it looks like the installed stiffener tab was around half of a millimeter off causing the ribbon not to make contact with the cable clip. A careful removal and replacement put the ribbon cable in contact with the motherboard exactly where it should be.

The laptop runs better than new!

This gaming laptop came with 8GB of ram (plenty for most work cases) but editing video and photos on it stressed it out. Since there are two slots for RAM, we temporarily gave it two sticks of 8GB (removing the original so the latency will match to run in dual-channel) until the order of 64GB 3200MHz sticks come in (32x2). There is a NOTICABLY faster response in almost every task and no maxing out the ram in photoshop, cinema 4d, after effects, or premiere (definitely depends on use case).

We also recommend a larger SSD as this is equipped with a 512GB NVMe SSD (solid state drive) from the factory. For a gaming laptop, we recommend either a large capacity drive (for game storage) or an external (preferably solid state) because today's games are sometimes hundreds of gigabytes. We've also ordered a 2TB NVMe SSD as a secondary drive since this has two slots and enough PCIe lanes to support it.
