Remove these 8 things from your website immediately if you want to rank on Google. 🖥

1). Pages within thin content and offer little to no value.

2). Outdated content: Google likes fresh content.

3). Intrusive pop-ups or page takeovers. This increases bounce rate and hurts user experience.

4). Excessive promotions or Google Adwords on your site. This hurts load time.

5). Over linking to pages within your site. Avoid irrelevant internal linking.

6). Duplicate content. Multiple pages on your site with the same content.

7). Linking to low authority sites or spammy sites.

8). Any type of malware or security hole. Google will penalize your site for this.

Which one of these can you remove from your site?

If your small business isn’t doing this, it’s missing out. 🙅🏻‍♂️

The goal of having an online presence for your business shouldn’t just be to generate traffic.

Your aim should be to connect with your audience — and help them find solutions through your products and services.

The best way to do is that is through email marketing. 📩

More specifically, by starting an email newsletter sent out biweekly or monthly.

A newsletter is a valuable piece of content. It allows you to create an experience for your readers that will take them on a journey deeper into your business.

So, what type of content should you put in your newsletter?

Here are some tips:

1). Offer exclusive content such as special promos, deals, giveaways, behind the scenes photos, and videos

2). Curate content to become a helpful resource in your industry. Send out links to valuable information to your community, and then add your business’s unique voice to it.

3). Spotlight happenings, events, and other local businesses in your area. Locals love knowing what’s going on in their community.

When you keep them informed, they will welcome seeing your email in their inbox.

4). Engage. Engage. Engage. Ask questions to your audience. Find out what they are struggling with and how you might be able to help.

5). Avoid long blocks of text and book report emails.
People are busy. Give them small, quick doses of value.

Most people likely won’t read a 1,000-word email of you talking about how great you and your business are.

Be mindful of their time.

It's not just about creating content on your site that you think people are searching for.

It’s not about stuffing your page with keywords. 🙅🏻‍♂️

It's about creating content that solves people’s problems.

The SEO game is changing.

People demand value.

Give it to them.

Start by thinking of a problem one of your potential clients or customers might have.

Create content that gives them the answer.

What objections with a potential client or customer have to your service or product?

That's another piece of high-value content.

Be a problem solver in your content.

01/20/2022

The SEO game is not the same anymore.

Years ago, you could throw up a site and it would rank.

But now, it's not that simple, all because of this. 👀

Content is getting harder!

That’s right, content is going to be the biggest challenge in 2022 and beyond.

According to the latest stats, there are over 1 billion blogs and over 1.6 billion websites.

That’s insane.

But it also means people are creating the same content on the same topics repeatedly.

Most niches are saturated.

This means Google has the pick of the litter when it comes to choosing which websites to rank.

Does this mean you shouldn't focus on SEO?

Of course not.

It just means creating amazing content is more important than ever.

You need to:
- Create valuable content 💡
- Incorporate your expertise 👨🏻‍🔧
- Offer a unique perspective 🙋🏻‍♀️
- Include high-quality video, audio, or images 📹

In other words, your content needs to differentiate your business from the rest of the pack.

User experience is also important to how Google determines your site's rankings. 🔎

And design is one of the key aspects of user experience.

So if your site is poorly designed your rankings will suffer. 👎🏼

Here are some quick tips:

1) Design your website with the mobile-first approach. 📱

The majority of people are using mobile devices to search.

So make sure your site displays nicely on all devices and delivers a good experience.

2) Make sure content is easy to read and digest. 📑

That means good font sizes, good spacing between lines, readable colors, and a clear text hierarchy.

3) Compresses your images so your site loads as fast as possible. 🗜

Load time greatly factors into ranking and images are one of the biggest culprits that slow a site down

4) Simplify your site’s global navigation. 🕹

For a small business website, I recommend no more than 8 main sections.

Avoid going overboard with your navigation by adding numerous dropdowns, sub-categories, and useless links that potential customers quite frankly don’t care about.

5) Organize the content on your pages in a meaningful way. 💡

Make sure to use only one H1 tag on each page, and then subdivide the other text blocks on your page into sections than include subheadings.

Include relevant photos, videos, and graphics that enhance the messaging of your content. 📊

Your local business might have plenty of foot traffic. 👣

But what happens if you have little to no traffic to your website?

How do you generate leads? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Here are some strategies to help you gain more leads with little traffic without spending money on ads or having to do a ton of work

1) Make sure that every page of your site has clear search intent and is optimized for SEO.

This means optimizing against a focused keyword with proper page titles, content headlines, and a meta description.

That’s the bare minimum. If you need instructions on how to do this, just let me know in the comments.

2) Create lead magnets and promote them. 🔖

What’s a lead magnet?

It’s a free piece of content or resource that you give away in exchange for a visitor’s email address.

This is an awesome marketing tool because it gets people on your email list who essentially become cold leads and future customers.

3) Include links to your lead magnets on every page on your site. 🔗

Put it at the top of the page, within the body of the page, and at the end of the page as well.

Also, share them on your social profiles.

4) Write powerful page headlines to attract attention. ✍🏼

Use strong verbs and adjectives that evoke curiosity to persuade people to click when it appears on a Google search result page.

If more people click it, this sends a signal to Google that you should be ranking higher.

Also, web pages with powerful headlines are more likely to be shared on social media.

5) Increase your site speed. 🚤

Many businesses don’t realize that site speed is a pretty big factor in your overall search engine ranking yet one of easiest things to do.

Fixing the overall load times of your site can dramatically improve your traffic from Google over time which will increase your leads. 📈

Which one of these strategies do you want to try for your site?

How you can start using content marketing to promote your business...

Simple. 👉 Business Blogging! ✍🏼

What exactly is business blogging?

It’s writing about your business to help prospects get to know and trust you.

It’s educating your community about your unique value proposition and how you can solve their problems.

Ultimately business blogging is consistently creating content that helps visitors on your site and encourages them to stick around and learn about your products and services.

You want to convey the passion, care, and expertise your company puts into providing its services.

Here are some content ideas:

1. Tell an interesting story about the special benefits of your services.

2. Testimonials about your product or services

3. Hold a contest or giveaway. Use this as a way to collect email addresses.

4. Showcase your team members and employees.

5. Behind-the-scenes or "inside our business" articles. Works great for restaurants.

6. Promote other local businesses in your area. This is a great way to cross-promote and build backlinks.

7. Showcase upcoming events in your industry or community.

8. Interviews with local experts in your field.

9. List of resources to guide your customers to learn more about a particular topic.

10. Repurpose your “Frequently Asked Questions” into articles.

If you need help coming up with any of these ideas for your business, just let us know and we will be happy to send you some suggestions. 👇

“Isn’t my website too small for SEO?”

“I have very little traffic to my site, should I even spend time and money on SEO?” 🤷🏻‍♂️

Many small businesses with tiny websites have posed these questions to me through the years.

The short answer is: YES...

Especially if no one visits your site.

Why?

The whole point of SEO is to make your website more visible. 👀

And if your site isn’t optimized for search engines, your visibility isn’t increasing.

It’s the difference between having 2 or 3 visitors to your site per month versus getting a dozen of leads who contacts your business every month. ☎️

Although it will take some time, committing to an ongoing SEO effort builds a foundation that lasts for years to come. 📈

I still get tons of leads from content I created back in 2013.

And therein lies the bigger part of the answer to the question of whether you should focus on SEO for a small website:

Focus on creating CONTENT. ✍🏼

Valuable content at that.

And the best way to do that is to create a blog.

Today, creating content plays an important role in any business's marketing plan, and it’s one of the first things I suggest to small businesses that want to increase their visibility online.

Creating ongoing content doesn’t have to be difficult or take a long time.

You just have to commit to doing it consistently like anything else.

Let me know in the comments if you need some help or want to pick my brain on how to get started. 👇

If you are a you need to create local content.

And the best way to do that to boost your SEO is by...

Creating a blog on your website! ✍🏼

Why?

Because blogging is essential to SEO.

By slowly creating blog pages, you add more links to your site and your business’s main site will eventually acquire more links to it.

And back-linking is still the most important overall SEO ranking factor. 🔗

So, as your blog’s search engine rankings increase, as do the rankings of your website. 📈

Here are some tips for creating blog posts:

- Include the city, town, or neighborhood where your business is located wherever you can.

- Include neighboring towns and cities and unofficial terms that locals may use.

- Create posts on local events, news, and happenings

- Team up with other local businesses in your area by creating content that will be useful to both of your audiences.

Most of all, keep in mind when crafting your content, don’t just write about your products and services. 🙅🏻‍♂️

People want value. 💡

Write posts that help and benefit your reader in some way.

Aim to become a trusted source in your local area.🤲🏼

Your content should be about the problems and needs of your audience and not how great you and your business are.
