🚨 WARNING: USPS Package Delivery Text Scam Hitting Phones Right Now 🚨
I just received this scam text from a Philippines number (+63):
“USPS Shipping Notice – Immediate Attention RequiredDelivery Attempt: No recipient available…https://usps.gcbxsone/payReply “Y” to open the tracking page…Packages not collected after May 22 may be returned…”
This is a classic smishing scam (SMS phishing). Scammers impersonate USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc. to trick you into clicking a fake link.
đź”´ Red Flags to Watch For:
• Unsolicited text from an unknown or international number
• No actual tracking number provided
• Suspicious short link (real USPS links end in usps.com or usps.gov)
• Creates urgency or fear (“act now or it returns to sender”)
• Asks you to reply “Y”, click a link, or “pay a small fee”
• Claims a delivery attempt when you’re not expecting anything
🛡️ How the Scam Works:
The link leads to a fake USPS-looking site that steals your personal info, credit card details, or installs malware on your phone. Once they have your data, they can commit identity theft or drain accounts.
Important: Legitimate USPS does NOT send unsolicited texts with links asking for payments or personal info.
âś… How to Protect Yourself:
• Never click links in unsolicited texts
• Go directly to usps.com (type it yourself) to check for real packages
• Forward scam texts to 7726 (SPAM)
• Block the number and delete the message
• If you’re expecting a package, track it only through the official carrier website or app
