Google doesn’t rank the “best” business in town. It ranks the one that made it easiest to find.
We work with local businesses every day and we see the how they fail to rank on Google simply because their online visibility needs a little work. None of it is complicated, it’s just actions that get skipped.
What you can do today to optimize your online visibility:
1️⃣ Claim and finish your Google Business Profile. Hours, categories, services, and photos. Half-filled profiles get skipped over.
2️⃣ Get reviews and reply to them promptly. Google notices when you’re engaging. A quick “thank you for your support!” goes further than people think.
3️⃣ Keep your name, address, and phone number identical everywhere. Website, Facebook, Yelp, all matching exactly. Even small mismatches (Ave vs Avenue) will confuse Google about whether you’re one business or two.
4️⃣ Put your areas of operation and services in full pages, not just a list. A plumber in Denver needs a whole page for “plumbing services in Denver,” not a bullet point.
5️⃣ Post something, even a small update, on a regular basis on your Google Business Profile. It can a simple blog update or a project photo with a caption. Consistency signals you’re active and in business.
6️⃣ Get listed on local directories and community sites. Chamber of commerce, local news mentions, industry directories. These build trust in a way ads can’t fake.
7️⃣ Add a FAQ section to your key pages. People search in full questions. A short FAQ answering what your customers actually ask is an easy way to rank for those.
8️⃣ Add a Google Map embed to your contact page and your website footer. This reinforces your location to Google and helps website visitors too.
