Microsoft will never lock your web browser and demand you call a toll-free number to fix a virus. Those terrifying red warning screens are just aggressive advertisements designed to cause a panic. Finding an unfamiliar program or a loud pop-up can be unsettling, but the worst thing you can do is call the number on the screen. Try pressing Alt+F4 first to close the open window. If Alt+F4 doesn't work, pressing and holding the power button to shut down the computer is fine. If you are still worried, we can check your system for actual malware.

Setting up a new router feels like a chore when you just want to get online. We see a lot of Central Iowa families skip the basic security settings because the manual is confusing. Taking ten minutes to lock down your network keeps strangers off your connection and protects your personal data.

A wireless printer that suddenly drops off the network usually just needs a static IP address. Your home router constantly shuffles network addresses among your phones and tablets. When the printer gets a new address, your computer loses track of it. Assigning a permanent address locks the connection in place. We configure home networks to keep your devices talking to each other flawlessly. Stop rage quitting over paper jams and connection errors. We keep Central Iowa printing smoothly.

Watching a five-minute video tutorial does not prepare you for delicate motherboard repairs. Modern computers use fragile ribbon cables that snap under the slightest improper tension. One slipped screwdriver easily destroys a sensitive component and doubles your repair bill. We see the aftermath of DIY attempts on our bench every week. Leave the intricate hardware swaps to the professionals. We will throw you a bone and get it done right the first time.

Finding an unfamiliar program on your computer requires a calm and systematic response. Disconnect your computer from the home network immediately to stop the program from communicating outward. Ignore any pop-ups claiming to clean your system. Bring the machine to a trusted local expert. We remove malicious software without relying on fear-mongering tactics. Your personal IT team has your back.

Performing a factory reset wipes every personal file off your computer permanently. Many users attempt a reset to fix a slow machine and accidentally erase their entire document folder. A factory reset removes all user data and reinstalls the operating system from scratch. Always secure a verified backup before initiating this process. If your computer fails to POST or runs incredibly slow, bring it to our bench first. We diagnose the actual symptom without needlessly nuking your data. No more digging for answers.

Moving your wireless router out from behind the television instantly improves your signal. Metal appliances and dense screens block wireless signals from reaching your devices. Placing the router on an open shelf gives the antennas a clear line of sight. Dead zones in the bedroom often stem from poor router placement in the living room. We handle home network setups across Central Iowa to eliminate those frustrating dropouts. Your home Wi-Fi should just work.

A laptop case bulging at the seams indicates a dangerous swollen lithium-ion battery. Never press down on a bulging laptop keyboard. The pressure easily punctures the battery casing and creates a serious fire hazard. Unplug the device immediately and bring it to a professional shop for safe removal and disposal. We safely extract swollen batteries and restore your laptop to a flat profile.

You press the power button and get no display on the monitor. The fan spins, the lights blink, but the screen stays black. We call this a failure to POST (Power On Self Test). The motherboard cannot verify the basic hardware required to start up. Many things can cause this, but you can try a few simple fixes. First, unplug the power from the laptop, remove the bottom plate, and disconnect the battery if you feel comfortable doing so. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Then try powering it on after reconnecting the battery and cable. If that does not work, while the bottom panel is still off (unplug the power and battery again), try removing and reinstalling the RAM sticks. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, or you already tried and it did not work, you need a professional to take a look. Let us do the digging for you.
