It’s simple, Comcast’s current cable internet network runs on DOCSIS 3.0 and can provide internet speeds up to 100MB.
I myself have worked for Comcast in the past and it’s no surprise to me that the current best modem is still a Motorola Surfboard SB6121. The Surfboard series was the best many years ago when I worked for them and it appears it still is. I myself have the same modem and it’s saved me a ton of money over the years by not having to rent and pay a monthly fee for their sub par equipment.

This modem is plug and play. Meaning all you do is screw in the coax cable and it works. You don’t have to set it up or know how to access the built in firmware to configure anything. You just hook it up, wait a moment and POW. Super fast internet speeds. Ok, I lied, there is one step you must take care of. Because you are using your own modem you must call Comcast or your cable internet provider and give them the MAC Address of your modem which is very clearly labeled on a sticker on the bottom. They must register it to your account that one time only.

I have Comcast at 123MB down and it’s most definitely the fastest internet I’ve ever had. With all 3 of us in the house streaming Netflix or playing video games online at the same time, it still has excessive bandwidth leftover. Basically we could never use it all if we tried. I don’t even understand when people want things like Fiber Internet in the house because you could never use all of the regular cable internet if you tried.

Best Wireless Modem Router Combo?
In some cases your Comcast Modem may also be your WiFi router. Known as a combo modem router. If this is the case you will also need to purchase a separate wireless router or just buy the wireless combo router mentioned above.
If you want to save money and buy the modem and WiFi router separately(my preferred method) then this ASUS is a good cheap average user wireless router with a built in firewall. It’s very simple to use and pairs great with the original cheaper Motorola SB6121 mentioned above.
However, if you’re like me you don’t want something for the average user. You want your router to have USB Ports, built in file server, FTP Server, Print Server and more. This is my personal router and it’s the best one I’ve ever owned. Such a great device for the more advanced user.
If you already have a wifi router, ignore all of that unless you want to upgrade to the best wireless and extend range.
