Your competition is there to help you understand the market, spot opportunities, and see what’s happening in your industry.
Not to build your identity by copying everyone else.
Because when every brand sounds the same, looks the same, and promises the same things, the customer’s decision eventually comes down to one question:
Who charges less?
And trust me, that’s not where you want to compete.
Your brand needs its own voice, its own story, its own way of communicating, and an experience people can actually associate with you.
So yes, watch your competition. Study them. Learn from them.
But then come back and look at your own brand.
Because differentiation starts when you stop trying to fit in.
Would people recognize your brand without seeing the logo? Tell me in the comments.

Diferenciarse no siempre significa inventar algo nuevo.
¿Realmente necesito corregirlo… o todavía no he aprendido a sacarle provecho?
Crocs could have done what many brands do when they feel like they don’t fit in: Change. Tone things down. Try to look a little more like everyone else.
But instead, Crocs chose to build around the very thing that made the brand impossible to confuse with anyone else.
And that’s one of the biggest lessons in branding:
Differentiation doesn’t always mean creating something completely new.
Sometimes, it means recognizing the value in what already makes your brand different… and learning how to turn it into an advantage.
Because trying to look “more professional” by copying what works for others can come at a high cost: losing personality, recognition, and brand memorability.
Before changing something just because your competitors do it differently, ask yourself:
Does this really need to be fixed… or have I simply not learned how to use it to my advantage yet?
What does your brand have that would be a mistake to hide?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

_________
A Caregiver brand is not built by simply saying “we care about
you.” It is built by showing that you truly understand the people
who trust you.
Dove is a great example because it doesn’t just sell personal care
products. It sells something deeper: acceptance, confidence, and
well-being.
Because a brand is not only remembered for what it sells…
it is remembered for how it makes people feel.
Is your brand creating a real connection with your customers, or
just using nice words? I’ll read you in the comments.

______
The Caregiver is not a brand that simply “sounds nice.” It is a
brand that supports, explains, simplifies, and makes its client feel
safe.
This archetype sells peace of mind, support, and trust. But when it
overdoes it, it can sound more dramatic than useful.
The key is to care without suffocating and help without treating
the client like they can’t think for themselves. Is your brand caring
for the client experience, or just decorating its communication with
good intentions?

Changing the color of a template doesn’t count as innovation.
The Creator brand personality is not about making things look
pretty. It’s about building a brand with vision, intention, and its
own point of view.
Brands like Lego, Etsy, Adobe, and Pinterest connect with this
archetype because they don’t just sell products or services. They
sell imagination, expression, possibility, and creative freedom.
At VCC Design Studio, we create brand identities with intention,
personality, and zero interest in looking like everyone else.
Is your brand building something of its own, or just dressing up
borrowed ideas? I’ll read you in the comments.

algo visual.
Canva no solo vende plantillas. Vende posibilidad.

Canva is a great example of the Creator brand personality. Not
because every template is a masterpiece —let’s be honest— but
because its essence is helping more people create, communicate,
and turn ideas into something visual.
Canva doesn’t just sell templates. It sells possibility.
So tell me: do you use Canva to create with intention or just to
survive the content of the week?

But being an expert brand does not mean overwhelming your
audience with technical jargon, endless explanations, or content
that reads like a doctoral dissertation.
A strong Sage brand takes complex information and makes it
useful, clear, and easy to understand.
Its authority comes from experience, evidence, thoughtful
communication, and the ability to educate without making the
customer feel lost or inferior.
Because educating is not about proving how much your brand
knows.
It is about helping your audience know enough to make a better
decision.
So ask yourself: is your brand turning knowledge into clarity—or
creating more confusion with a professional-looking vocabulary?

puedan tomar mejores decisiones.
Significa
_________
TD Bank is showing that a Sage brand doesn’t need complicated
language to prove how much it knows.
Through its More Human campaign, the bank turns topics like
mortgages, loans, credit cards, and financial technology into a
clearer, more useful, and more relatable conversation.
The Sage brand personality doesn’t build authority by making
customers feel uninformed. It builds authority by turning
knowledge into clarity so people can make better decisions.
And there is an important lesson here for small businesses: being
an expert doesn’t mean filling your content with technical jargon. It
means explaining complex ideas in a simple, human, and
trustworthy way.
What brand has explained something complicated in a truly
human way? Tell me in the comments.

No
______
The Sage doesn’t want to impress you. It wants you to
understand.
This brand personality builds trust through knowledge, clarity, and
informed decisions. It doesn’t sell through pressure or impulse. It
explains why something works, which option makes sense, and
how to make a better choice.
But being a Sage brand doesn’t mean using technical jargon just
to sound smarter. True authority comes from making complex
ideas easier to understand, teaching without making the customer
feel inferior, and demonstrating expertise without writing a
doctoral dissertation in every post.
Because educating is not overwhelming. A well-built Sage
brand doesn’t leave the customer more confused. It gives them
the confidence they need to decide.
Is your brand helping people understand—or does it look like a
doctoral dissertation with a “Buy Now” button?
