When I heard the news yesterday, I honestly thought it was a joke. I was taking photos for a client at an event and when I read it out loud, a bunch of people looked up in disbelief.
I'm not going to lie and say I was a huge Oliver Tree fan, but I loved watching his videos and seeing his character evolve. In a world where everyone claims to be "weird" for the sake of getting views and attention, this dude was truly out there and had original ideas. That's on top of making genuinely great music and having a unique sound.
I liked a handful of songs, "Jerk" specifically was on loop for a while when I went through a tough week around the time it first came out. As I dive deeper into his catalog, I'm realizing that I've definitely been missing out and should have listened to more of his albums front to back.
I specifically had the idea for this graphic after hearing Mac Glocky cover "Cowboys Don't Cry" on his Instagram, a song I previously hadn't heard and am now obsessed with. Crazy how someone can be so incredibly silly and unserious in every way, but then put out a track that sounds this good and has a mature undertone.
All I've seen on my feed the past 24 hours is other artists and musicians I follow, across multiple genres and even outside of music, talk about what an amazing person he was outside of being a performer and artist.
It just sucks to see the world lose someone like this, especially when it's so rare already. Don't know why this randomly has me so bummed out, but I guess it's a reminder of how important it is to appreciate good music and art while you can 😔
