Quick question: do you use the same password for more than one account? You are not alone, and it is an easy fix. 🔐

This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the theme is "Don't Make It Easy for Them." Try this simple check-up:

1️⃣ Use a short phrase you can remember, like three random words together. Longer is stronger!
2️⃣ Give your email and bank accounts their own unique passwords.
3️⃣ Turn on two-step verification. That extra code sent to your phone keeps strangers locked out.
4️⃣ Say yes to software updates. They often fix security holes.

Did you get a text saying your package could not be delivered? Or an email saying your account is locked? Pause before you click. 🛑

Scammers count on us acting fast. Three quick ways to protect yourself:

✅ Do not click links in unexpected texts or emails. Go straight to the company's website or app instead.
✅ Real banks and government offices will never ask for your password or PIN by text.
✅ When something feels urgent or too good to be true, it probably is a scam.

Think you have been targeted? The AARP Fraud Watch Helpline is free for everyone, members or not: 📞 877-908-3360. AARP Maine also hosts free monthly online sessions on spotting scams.

We're heading to Maine's 4th annual Digital Opportunity Workshop on October 2, kicking off national Digital Opportunity Week. It's a morning for people across Maine who believe everyone deserves to be connected, and to feel safe and confident online.

We're especially excited because give IT. get IT. is one of seven organizations receiving a 2026 Digital Resilience Grant from the Maine Connectivity Authority. That means more Mainers will get the tools and know-how to spot scams, protect their information, and use technology with confidence. 🎉
