Customer Repair Completed!
For Lucas Myers
What started as a simple CPU cooler failure turned into one of the more involved rebuilds I’ve had in a while.
The original cooler failed, and after diagnosing the system, I found the CPU had also been damaged. I replaced the CPU, installed a new cooler, and replaced the power supply because I didn’t trust the old unit after the failure.
At that point, I made the gamble of trying to reuse the original motherboard.
I completely rebuilt the system around it, got everything installed, wired, and ready to go… and it still wouldn’t work.
That meant tearing the entire build back down again.
After further troubleshooting, it became clear the motherboard had been damaged too. So I ordered a replacement motherboard, and since we were already this deep into the repair, we also replaced the old CyberPowerPC case with a much better case and essentially rebuilt the entire computer from the ground up for a second time.
Once the hardware was finally running, the next problem was Windows.
Lucas no longer had access to the old phone number tied to his Microsoft account. He was able to update his security information, but Microsoft placed a 30-day hold on the account, which prevented us from getting back into the existing Windows installation.
So I removed the M.2 drive, connected it externally to another computer, accessed the old user profiles, recovered his personal files, work files, documents, downloads, and anything else important, sorted through everything, removed the unnecessary files, and backed up what he actually needed.
After the data recovery was complete, I wiped the old drive, put it back into the rebuilt PC, performed a completely fresh Windows installation, and then worked through all of the motherboard, chipset, graphics, network, and cooler drivers.
The fresh Windows installation also had no network drivers at first, so even getting the machine online to finish installing everything turned into another troubleshooting process.
Work completed:
* CPU replacement

What was supposed to be a CPU cooler replacement turned into two full rebuilds, a motherboard failure, a Windows lockout, full data recovery, and a clean Windows installation.
Pretty crazy repair, but it was worth it for this “now” masterpiece of a build, and it’s purring like a kitten :)
