BREAKING.

Approximately 70 ICE detainees at the Suffolk County House of Correction (SCHC) have launched a hunger strike calling for an end to abuse and inhumane conditions.

FOUR PEOPLE are currently being held in solitary confinement in direct retaliation for participating in this hunger strike.

Additionally, according to detainees inside, SCHC is illegally detaining people beyond the amount of time that the facility is allowed.

# # #

According to sources inside, the maximum amount of time SCHC is allowed to detain people is 24 hours, but people have reported being held for weeks. We have also been alerted that the A-number (known as the alien number) designated by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to all people who have an open case with the US immigration system is intentionally NOT being updated to show the current location of those being detained in Suffolk, potentially due to the illegality of holding detainees in the facility beyond the 24 hour period. We have verified that at least two people’s A-numbers have not been updated as of today, February 16th.

Suffolk County is not listed as one of the 78 law enforcement agencies with a formal agreement with ICE known as a 287g agreement (www.ice.gov/287g). If there is no agreement, how does SCHC have the authority to detain people?

We strongly encourage everyone in contact with someone detained in Suffolk to verify the location of the person with their A-numbers and take screenshots and/or pictures of the results. To do that online, go to https://locator.ice.gov/odls. If you, or someone you know needs any support with searching for someone they know who is being detained in Suffolk, please message us or call the AMOR RI - Alianza para Movilizar Nuestra Resistencia support line at 401-675-1414.

This is a developing story, but please contact the Suffolk County House of Correction and demand that both detainees and incarcerated folks receive better conditions at the facility and for all detainees to be immediately released: 617-635-1000, extension 6510 # or 2030 #

Please also invite your friends and participate in this call-in day event happening on Monday: https://www.facebook.com/events/794582150886047/

URGENT SUPPORT NEEDED.

At least a dozen police with K-9 units have converged on the tree-sits and the support camp in the Atchafalaya Basin. ETP is currently cutting down trees dangerously close to the sits.

CALL the St. Martin Sheriff Department and demand that they back off, not attempt a dangerous extraction, and let our support people stay on site: 337-394-3071

The folks in the tree-sits could be in serious danger if the police try to extract them. It is also essential that our support team be allowed to stay on site to advocate for their safety.

****

Tree-clearing for the Bayou Bridge Pipeline is now just 1.5 miles away from the trees-sits, which have been set up directly on the path of the pipeline.

Last month a Court ordered that construction on the pipeline be halted. But Energy Transfer Partners, with the blessing of the State of Louisiana, have continued construction illegally.

Bayou Bridge is the final piece of the Dakota Access Pipeline system. It's being built by the same company, Energy Transfer Partners, that unleashed violence against peaceful water protectors at Standing Rock, and it would connect to the DAPL system to bring oil from North Dakota to export facilities in Louisiana.

The pipeline would terminate in St. James, a community of color that is already surrounded by toxic fossil fuel infrastructure. Despite a state court ruling that construction of the pipeline must immediately stop until an evacuation route was created for this community, Energy Transfer Partners chose to ignore the court order and illegally continue with construction, jeopardizing the health and safety of the people living in St. James.

BREAKING.

This morning a person locked-down to a tractor that was placed as a blockade at the entrance of a proposed fracked-gas compressor station site in Maryland. The action stopped Dominion Energy from clearing trees at the site.

Community members including kids ranging from toddlers to teenagers joined the demonstration to protest against the fracked-gas compressor station that would feed Dominion's Cove Point LNG export facility. This was the second community blockade at the site in the past week.

The action successfully blockaded the entrance to the site for several hours. Ultimately the action ended with no arrests being made.

Spectra Energy released their earnings report this week, and their profits have fallen once again. This makes it six straight financial quarters of declining profits for Spectra. They have not seen a gain in profits since 2014.

Spectra is facing fierce community resistance in the Northeast, where 240 people have now been arrested as part of direct actions to .

Spectra is also facing resistance to their projects in Ohio and in the Southeast and is facing several lawsuits. It was also reported this week that Spectra will have to pay $100 million to inspect and repair their Texas Eastern pipeline, which exploded in Pennsylvania in April.

There's still a long battle ahead, but Spectra is facing resistance everywhere they go, and the resistance is having a real impact.

Here's a look at how much their profits have declined over the last six quarters:

Q1 2015: -36%
Q2 2015: -88%
Q3 2015: -40%
Q4 2015: -13%
Q1 2016: -12%
Q2 2016: -3%

(quarterly changes in profit are derived from comparing a company's profits in one quarter, to the same quarter in the prior year)

while you still can.

BREAKING.

Two people have locked-down and shut down the main entrance of State Street Corporation's headquarter building in Boston.

State Street has $27 trillion in assets and is one of the world's largest investors in fracked-gas.They are one of the top institutional share holders of almost every fracked-gas company, from Spectra Energy to Dominion to Kinder Morgan.

The United States military uses more than half of the federal budget and is one of the biggest global consumers of fossil fuels. Climate change will also lead to more wars and conflict, which corporations like Textron would profit from.

There's no climate justice without demilitarization. Textron also produces cluster bombs, which have been sold to and used by Saudi Arabia to kill civilians in Yemen.

A banner was deployed at the site that read "Textron: Stop Killing and Maiming Civilians".

We will continue to confront all forms of injustice. This is .
