'tis the season to be jolly ...
and to be careful online! This is when many of us are less vigilant because we're busy and lots of hackers and scammers are trolling the Internet.

There is a new "pane" in System Preferences in Apple's Monterey System 12 called "Passwords." It has a powerful feature that may be disconcerting when you first encounter it. It looks at all of your saved passwords and checks to see if you are using them repeatedly across the Internet for different sites/purposes. It also scans to see if these passwords are contained in any known data leaks! If either case is true, a warning triangle with an exlamation point in it appears next to the account/password listing. If you select the account in question, the details appeart to the right and there is a button that allows you to see what password was saved so you can see if indeed the password was one you re-used or not. This is helpful because it is important to know whether YOU are the source of the "leak" by simply re-using the password so many times that you've trained the bad actors to be ready when someone finally had a breach. Or, if you're not re-using, you just happen to be a victim of a breach THIS PARTICULAR TIME—something that is very much LESS LIKELY.
I am just about to try this feature—it looks like it makes it super easy to change passwords that aren't unique and make them unique, by linking directly to the account from this System Preferences pane. I'll let you know how it goes.
Kudos to Apple for caring enough about security—even further improving security—to add a feature that will undoubtedly spur an avalanche of calls from panicked people that aren't quite sure how to interpret these results or what to do with them, but by the end will have the peace of mind that they've improved their security vastly.

Back in the late 2000's, Apple pulled off a pretty well-executed, IMHO, transition from Motorola's PPC processors to Intel processors in their computers.
The iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Apple Watch, however, have always run on Apple's own silicon.
Yesterday, Apple introduced the first three Mac computers running the M1 processors, which are the beginning of their transition to their own silicon and away from Intel for the Mac.
I fully expect this to not just be a smooth transition but to unlock great new capabilities for the Mac, hitherto only available in the other product lines.
