We treat broken bones with casts. We treat infections with antibiotics. We treat heart conditions with medication and surgery. Nobody questions whether those injuries are real or whether the person deserves treatment.
But tell someone you have CPTSD and suddenly it becomes a matter of mindset. Of attitude. Of not trying hard enough to get over it.
Here is what is actually happening inside a CPTSD brain. The amygdala, your brain's alarm system, is overactive and misfiring constantly. The hippocampus, which processes memory and time, is reduced in volume. The prefrontal cortex, responsible for rational thinking and emotional regulation, gets hijacked the moment stress arrives. Cortisol and adrenaline flood the body at the wrong times and wear down every organ system over years.
This is measurable. This shows up on scans. This is biology, not attitude.
Healing CPTSD requires what healing any neurological injury requires. Time. The right support. Consistent and compassionate treatment. A body and brain that are finally given the conditions to repair.
You cannot willpower your way out of a brain injury. But you can heal from one.
Stop apologizing for needing real help for a real injury. You deserve actual care, not just better coping. π
