SHANE MADSEN // 1998 HONDA CIVIC EK HATCHBACK

Built with one goal in mindβ€”putting down serious power while keeping the proven B-series platform alive and well. Shane Madsen's '98 Civic EK hatch combines a forged B-series engine, Garrett 62mm turbocharger, and VP110 fuel to produce an impressive 488 WHP and 329 lb-ft of torque. Supporting the combination is a Hondata S300-equipped ECU built by The ECU Guy, featuring electronic boost control and custom replacement IC upgrades. Support by Herse-Tuning.TM. A SnakeTuning Inc Mini Dizzy and custom harness package help modernize the ignition system, while Manley rods, Wiseco pistons, and a Supertech valvetrain provide the strength needed to handle nearly 500 wheel horsepower. Fresh off the dyno, this EK proves that a well-sorted B-series setup can still deliver big results.

K series ECU failures?

Here at The ECU Guy, we don't take board swaps lightly. If you've got a Kpro ECU that's taken a hit, I'll give it an honest inspection. I've got the knowledge to diagnose and source specialized parts you need to get it running again. Success rates are around 80% with repairs like this. If I am unable to get your board up and running, we then move on to replacement boards, and there will be no charge for the unsuccessful unit.

Skip the wait and own a ready-to-ship ECU from The ECU Guy.

Because most of my time is spent building customer orders, I rarely have completed ECUs available for immediate purchase. Everything is normally built to order, which means a wait time. This one is ready to go today.

Up for sale is an exceptionally clean, fully refurbished PR4 ECU, professionally prepared for Hondata S300 or Snake Emu use right out of the box.

This is a desirable 1720 revision ECU, known for being one of the more sought-after Honda OBD1 board revisions. It also retains the unique OEM PR4 outer case, making it a neat piece for Honda enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Originally, the PR4 was calibrated for a non-VTEC B18 application. This unit has been upgraded with several modern enhancements, including:
βœ… Full ECU refurbishment
βœ… Solid-state capacitor conversion
βœ… Electronic boost control
βœ… VTEC conversion
βœ… Hondata S300 / Snake Emu ready
βœ… The ECU Guy transparent top cover
βœ… Lifetime warranty details documented inside the case

One of the highlights of this ECU is the solid-state capacitor system I've developed and installed. Unlike traditional electrolytic capacitors, these components do not leak and offer significantly improved long-term reliability. Required board modifications have already been completed.

Also included is an optional The ECU Guy custom SST chip, configured for the Hondata-style socket footprint. A startup basemap can be programmed upon request.

Pricing:
$580 – Includes SST chip and basemap
$550 – ECU only
If you've been wanting a professionally built ECU without the usual wait time, this is a great opportunity.

First order of test OneRoms are ordered.
Shipping will be around 2 weeks. If the first units are successful in testing, I can start placing orders, as well as drop the files to my GitHub. For diy orderers/builders, I have successfully updated the BOM file to make ordering seamless. More details and instructions after test units are ready. There are a few minimal parts that will need ordered and installed separately being the USB and the pin headers.

On a side note, my main relay upgrade final board revision is almost here, and expected to arrive this week, more on that soon😁

Ordering the first test batch soon. The total cost for my first batch of 5 assembled boards will be approximately $150-$250 USD, not per unit. JLCPCB has a minimum order quantity, so I have to purchase multiple boards at once for testing.
This project is based on the open-source OneRom platform and incorporates Alpha Tuning's firmware update, along with my own hardware layout changes to better fit the Honda tuning community. Once testing is complete, the design files will be available on GitHub for anyone who wishes to build their own.
These will not be available until I have personally tested and verified the design.
