The "rice trick" is actually a myth. While it might soak up some surface moisture, it can’t reach the internal components where the real damage happens. Plus, rice dust and starch can actually gum up your ports and cause more trouble!

If your tech gets a soak:
1️⃣ Power it off immediately.
2️⃣ Dry the outside with a soft cloth.
3️⃣ Bring it to us at Computers Done Right as fast as you can.

There’s a specific kind of quiet relief when you see files reappear on a screen after thinking they were gone for good.

We had a drive come in earlier this week that just wouldn’t cooperate. No big drama, it just wasn’t showing any data. After spending some time with it in the shop, we were able to recover the files and get everything back to the owner.

Whether it’s years of family photos or a week’s worth of business projects, we know how much those files matter. It’s always a good day when we can hand back a drive with everything right where it belongs.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: The voice on the other end might not be who you think it is.

We’re seeing a rise in "Live Deepfake Emergency" calls. Using just a short clip of someone’s voice from social media, scammers use AI to mimic a loved one or colleague perfectly. They’ll call you sounding distressed, claiming they’re in trouble and need money or sensitive info immediately.

It’s terrifyingly convincing, but here is how you can protect yourself and your family:

1️⃣ Establish a "Safe Word": Pick a word or phrase only your family knows. If you get a suspicious "emergency" call, ask for the word.
2️⃣ Hang Up and Call Back: If someone claims to be in trouble, hang up and call their known number directly. Don’t trust the incoming caller ID, as those can be spoofed too.
3️⃣ Slow Down: Scammers rely on panic. If they are rushing you or demanding payment through unusual methods, it’s a major red flag.

Even though we aren't exactly in a tundra, this unusually cold snap can be tough on your devices. Here are a few quick tips to keep your gear running smooth while we wait for the sun to remember its job:

❄️ Don’t Leave It In The Car: Cold temps can drain your battery faster than a tourist looking for parking at Sharky's On the Pier . If you leave your laptop in the car overnight, you might wake up to a dead battery or a very sluggish screen.

❄️ Beware of Condensation: If your device has been sitting in the cold, don't power it on immediately when you get into a warm room. Let it acclimate for a few minutes to avoid moisture buildup inside the hardware.

❄️ Sluggish Screens: Some LCD displays get "ghosty" or slow to respond when they’re cold. Don’t panic: just let it reach room temperature naturally.
