Chris Phillips, CVT, Practice Manager at Pleasant Valley Veterinary Clinic, looked at inventory the way some people look at a puzzle. Nearly 1,500 products, a three-page spreadsheet he carried around the hospital, and a number he was determined to move.

A year later:
📉 $197,000 in COGS savings, down from 25% to 23%
📦 $130,000 released from the shelves, cutting inventory carry by more than half
⏱ 3-5 hours a week back in his schedule
💚 Staff raises, a great Christmas party, building renovations, and a new parking lot

That last one is why we do this. Seeing a hospital tame its inventory, regain some peace of mind, and free up capital to put back into the team is the most rewarding part of our work.

Last week at the VerticalVet's Veterinary Skills Summit, Emmitt Nantz ran a session on inventory optimization that included a role-based hospital inventory simulation 🎲

Attendees worked through it twice. Once without a structured replenishment process, once with one. Same hospital, same demand. The only thing that changed was whether a predictable process was in place, and that turned out to be the whole difference.
