Not every website should be built the same way.

For some businesses, the strongest selling tool isn’t a paragraph of copy. It’s the work itself.

Florists, photographers, designers, planners and other image-forward businesses often earn trust through what people see before they ever read a word.

That doesn’t mean strategy becomes less important, but it does mean that the strategy should support the way people naturally make decisions.

When I redesigned the Bonnie Bee Flowers website, the goal wasn’t to add more content. It was to create an experience that gave the imagery room to lead while still providing the information couples needed to take the next step.

When I started my business, I assumed growth meant saying yes to more opportunities, offering more services and filling every available spot on my calendar.

What I've learned is that more isn't always better. So, I'm much more intentional about who I work with, the projects I take on and how I spend my time. I've realized I do my best work when I'm not stretched thin, and I enjoy my life a lot more when work isn't at the center of everything.

I still care about growing my business, but I just don't think growth has to come at the expense of creativity, family, travel or the things that make life feel full.

Maybe that's what this season is really about: getting clearer on what matters and letting go of the idea that more is always the goal.

One thing I kept thinking while exploring Mackinac Island:

The places we remember most usually aren’t the places with the biggest attractions or the most things to do. They’re the places that just feel good to be in.

As a designer, I notice things like architecture, signage, landscaping, colors and interiors. But most people aren’t walking around analyzing those things; they just notice how a place feels.

And I think that’s because memorable experiences are rarely created by one thing. They’re created by a lot of small details working together.

The strongest brands tend to work the same way. It’s usually not one logo, one font or one website feature that makes them memorable. It’s the way everything works together to create a consistent experience.

Maybe that’s why some places stay with us long after we’ve left.

We’ve all heard the phrase “dress for the job you want,” and I think the same idea applies to businesses, too.

Many business owners build their websites in the early stages then never really revisit them as things evolve. Over time, their work becomes more refined, pricing increases, the client experience improves and the business itself grows, but the website still reflects an earlier version of it.

And that especially matters when you’re trying to position yourself at a more premium level.

People are often experiencing your business online before they ever speak to you directly. If your website feels outdated, templated, confusing or visually inconsistent, it can quietly make higher pricing feel harder to justify, even when the quality of your work absolutely supports it.

A DIY website isn’t inherently bad. Most businesses start there. But at a certain point, your online presence should evolve alongside the business you’ve built.

Earlier in the week, we spent the day capturing updated lifestyle content for Long Lake Memories focused on how guests actually experience the property: slow mornings, lake days, fires by the water and weekends with friends and family.

In hospitality, the experience starts long before check in.

The new website for The Devine Medium is now live 🌙

The goal for this project wasn’t to completely reinvent Michelle’s brand, but to elevate what already existed in a way that felt more cohesive, professional and aligned with the work she does.

We expanded the visual direction through a refined color palette, celestial-inspired pattern work and typography that complemented her existing branding naturally. The final direction leaned into warm creams, deep blues and subtle pops of golden yellow to create a calmer, more trustworthy presence overall.

Because mediumship can feel unfamiliar or overwhelming, the website was designed to feel organized, approachable and easy to navigate. Through intentional page flow, thoughtful text hierarchy and strategic spacing, the experience now guides users more naturally while answering questions clearly and reinforcing Michelle’s expertise throughout the site.

Rather than relying on overly trendy or mystical visuals, the direction focused on creating something polished, emotionally approachable and intuitive from beginning to end.

We also created custom social media templates to help maintain a cohesive visual presence across digital platforms.

The older I get, the more I realize my best work happens when life feels full outside of my computer.

Lately, I’ve been feeling especially inspired by the kinds of experiences that make life feel a little slower, fulfilling and more meaningful. I think good creative work comes from that, too.

Have you ever been on a website and somehow felt more confused the longer you scrolled?

A lot of times, it’s because the visuals were designed before the structure, hierarchy and user experience were fully planned out.

A well-planned website should do more than just look polished. It should support the business behind it, guide people clearly through the experience and make it easy for them to take the next step.
