While an interesting idea, they are assuming there is empty FM spectrum in the market place where they can modulate the backscatter signal. In areas like Los Angeles, there is no empty spectrum! I designed an FM transmitter for the iPad/iPhone a number of years ago and finding an empty frequency there was next to impossible. So it that case, it will always be completing with strong interference. But I like the idea.
