Three Decisions That Separate Pro Work from "Good Enough"
1. Velcro > Zip Ties β Every Time π§΅ That thick vertical bundle on the left rail? Secured with black hook-and-loop, not plastic zip ties. Why it matters: Cat6A has a tighter bend radius spec. Over-cinched zip ties crush pairs β alien crosstalk β intermittent 10G drops that take weeks to chase. Velcro holds firm, adjusts on the fly, and never damages the jacket.
2. Labeling Isn't Cosmetic β It's Operational Insurance π·οΈ Every port: D-50, D-51, D-52... Rack rails marked R1, A/B zones. Six months from now when a PoE++ lighting controller goes offline at 2 AM, the tech doesn't guess β they trace. That labeling scheme paid for itself before the first move/add/change.
3. Multi-Trade Coordination = Zero Rework β‘ HVAC duct (G90 galvanized) running left of rack. Electrical junction box bottom-left. Low-voltage pe*******on top-right. We staged conduit entries, firestop schedules, and cable pathway before the drywallers showed up. Result: clean separation, code-compliant pe*******on, zero "move that cable" change orders.
The CradlePoint Detail Most Miss π‘ That white router with antennas isn't "guest Wi-Fi." It's cellular WAN failover for the building automation system β VAV controllers, access control, environmental monitoring. When the primary fiber path gets cut (construction, rodent, backhoe), the BAS stays online. That's the difference between "IT cabling" and infrastructure that protects revenue.
Bottom Line Structured cabling isn't wire-pulling. It's system design: pathway, bonding, labeling, power budget, failover strategy, and hardware that won't be the weak link in 5 years.
