Source Allies is hosting the next DSM Mobile Engineering Meetup this Wednesday, September 9th from 5:30 to 7pm!

Mahmoud Eraqi will present “From Code to Pixel: How Mobile Frameworks Actually Render UI,” exploring what happens behind the scenes as mobile frameworks turn application code into the interfaces users see on their screens.

We’re looking forward to welcoming DSM Mobile Engineering to Source Allies, RSVP here: https://bit.ly/DSM-MobileEnginnering-Sept2026

You don't build new skills by only doing what you already know how to do.

We want teammates who are curious enough to try something unfamiliar, willing to take on challenges that stretch their abilities, and want to be surrounded by people who will help them figure things out along the way. That might mean learning a new technology, taking on a different role, teaching something for the first time, or tackling a challenge you haven't seen before.

Find your next challenge at Source Allies.

A strong technical community doesn’t happen by accident. It grows when people have opportunities to learn from each other, test new ideas, share what they know, and build relationships along the way. August gave us plenty of opportunities to do all of these!

We opened our doors for four local user groups, supporting conversations and learning across Java, web development, DevOps, and Python. Our teammates kept sharing beyond those events too, with new Technically Speaking videos from Matt on Python uv and Jonathan on Claude Hooks, plus two blogs from Jamie digging into requirements engineering and its growing importance in AI-assisted development.

We also made time to build. Teams spent our annual hackathon experimenting with internal projects, collaborating with teammates they may not normally work alongside, and turning ideas into working solutions -all with a Dungeon Crawler Carl theme.

And because strong teams need more than technical challenges, we connected over Food & Friends, crowned a new champion ping pong team, tested someone's tolerance for increasingly questionable hot sauce at Hot Source, and spent time with Iowa's technology community at the TAI Tech Open.

Different activities, but a common thread: creating more opportunities for people to learn from one another, try something new, and strengthen the relationships that make good work possible.

That was just a taste of August at Source Allies.

A new Technically Speaking episode is live!

Telling a coding agent what to do is one thing. Checking whether it actually followed your rules is another. Our teammate Jonathan walks through dynamic hooks for coding agents and shows how they can inject project-specific context, block or flag unwanted behavior, and run checks at key points in the agent lifecycle. He also demonstrates how hooks can use deterministic logic or another model to evaluate whether the agent’s work meets your standards.

Good ideas don't have a seniority requirement. We want teammates who notice opportunities, ask questions, suggest better approaches, and take ownership of making things better. Sometimes that means a significant change. Sometimes it's a small improvement that makes everyone's work a little easier.
Both matter, and you don't have to wait until you've reached a certain title or years of tenure to contribute.

What does a good requirement look like when the reader is an AI agent?

Adding more detail seems like the obvious answer. But more detail doesn't necessarily solve the underlying problem that an agent still needs to know where the boundaries are. Defining what it must do, what it cannot do, and when it needs to stop and ask still matters.

In Part 2 of our requirements engineering blog, we look at how ideas from Lean Product Development can inform a different approach by defining constraint spaces, tracking unresolved gaps, and building a requirements pipeline designed for agentic development.

The best consultants don't keep what they know to themselves. At Source Allies, teaching is part of the job. It might mean helping a teammate work through a technical challenge, sharing what you've learned with a client team, leading a Black Belt session, or learning something new from the person sitting next to you.

We want people who enjoy building great software and making the people around them better at what they do.

AI coding agents can produce exactly what you asked for, and still build the wrong thing. As development becomes more autonomous, an old discipline is becoming increasingly important: requirements engineering.

Humans can spot ambiguity, ask questions, and fill gaps with experience. Agents often fill those same gaps with something plausible and then keep moving, compounding those decisions at scale.

Find out why requirements engineering may be one of the most important skills in agentic development, and why the people who already know how to specify intent rigorously have an important role to play.
