We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the members of the East Dover First Aid Squad of Toms River for entrusting us with their former first responder vehicle, a 1994 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1.

An iconic emergency vehicle of the 1990s, this well-preserved Caprice represents an era when the 9C1 package became the standard for law enforcement, fire, and EMS support vehicles across the country. We are proud to add this piece of emergency service history to our collection.

The vehicle will become part of our "Rolling Display" program and will be making appearances at various events throughout the region this year, helping us share the history of emergency services with the public.

Thank you to East Dover First Aid Squad for helping preserve this important piece of your history for future generations.

Slow day at the Makerspace

Was a slow day at the makerspace, moved the material for the loudspeaker paging system (only will support the radio museum, Makerspace, and guard shack) to storage in Building 9006

While in 9006, I found the Ubiquiti access points that went adrift, and programmed the first six, handing them off to August C for use in the new MARCH warehouse and museum spaces.

Upgraded one of the leftover 1U system to 32GB of RAM as prep for it's conversion to an Asterisk server to support Camp Evans.

Dropped off the NOS circuit breakers to support the UPS upgrade.

Took a side trip to the Diana site, August C and myself recovered an unused 48 port network switch for re-use on the main post, and removed the cable modem chassis so it could be turned in to close the account.

“I’ll just hack it.” No, you won’t. Every sensor in a modern car is hardcoded to the VIN.

The Telematics Control Unit (TCU) has a dedicated cellular connection that is ALWAYS ON. If you tamper with the ECU or pull a fuse, it instantly generates a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and flags the manufacturer’s cloud.

General Motors just got caught by the FTC tracking driver behavior EVERY 3 SECONDS and selling it to insurance companies. Link: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2025/01/ftc-takes-action-against-general-motors-sharing-drivers-precise-location-driving-behavior-data

Ford just patented interior cameras that scan your irises and read your lips. Link: https://finance.yahoo.com/sectors/technology/articles/fords-latest-patent-lets-truck-110500949.html

A modern car generates 25GB of data per hour. Link: https://www.theautopian.com/a-connected-car-can-generate-up-to-25-gigabytes-of-data-an-hour/

If you disconnect the TCU, the car goes dark, you lose your dash features, and the insurance companies buying your data instantly know you tampered with it.

You can’t hack your way out of the grid.

Where to start...

Ken G terminated the new access point (A/P) , camera, and furnace pit flooding sensor cables in the Hotel Basement, mounting the access points and cameras. (we have a pair of IR / night vision cameras inbound courtesy of CDL's friends at AXIS)

Martin F enable the above access points in the WLAN controller

Paul S installed the outdoor A/P covering the courtyard so students have outdoor Wi-Fi coverage

Paul and Martin installed the shelf and fiber switch in the hotel basement to test 10GB connectivity to the hotel second floor

August working on the WAN switch that is upstream of the new firewall cluster. He uncovered a configuration issue that will require adding a plug-in module.

David F moved a storage rack to 9030D

Martin tagged obsolete equipment for disposal by Dan J, and reactivated the A/P in the studio.
