Platform Teams are key to minimizing the errors that make it to production by standardizing workflows, automating testing, and setting up robust CI/CD pipelines. Here’s how they make a difference:

Automated Testing at Every Stage: By integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, Platform Teams ensure that code is thoroughly vetted before reaching production. This reduces bugs and errors, catching issues early in the process. According to the 2024 State of DevOps Report by Puppet, companies with automated testing see up to a 40% reduction in post-release defects.

Consistent Environments: Platform Teams set up standardized development, testing, and production environments, ensuring consistent code behavior across all stages. This eliminates the environment-specific errors that often occur in manual deployments.

Proactive Monitoring and Feedback Loops: With real-time monitoring and automated feedback, Platform Teams can quickly detect and address issues before they impact users, leading to faster resolution times and fewer production errors.

Enforcing Best Practices: Platform Teams implement coding standards, security checks, and compliance protocols, significantly reducing the likelihood of critical errors making it to production. The report highlights that teams with robust platform support experience a 30% decrease in code errors, allowing developers to release with confidence.

In the hospitality industry, seamless integration of property management systems (PMS) isn't just a convenience—it's the backbone of exceptional guest service. But all too often, hotels (and retreats or event centers) face data issues that can compromise efficiency and the guest experience.

Many hotels and event centers juggle multiple systems—from reservations and housekeeping to CRM platforms. When these systems fail to communicate effectively, the results can be less than stellar: data silos, service delays, and a subpar guest experience.

One camp we worked with used to have its data siloed in three different systems, one for donations, one for bookings and another for on site purchases in the store. If the sync went down for any of those systems went down it was a difficult day for customer service, accounting and the front end teams at the camp.

Does your organization struggle with having data in the right place at the right time? Our team has integrated SAP, Salesforce, Workday, Dynamics and many other enterprise systems together seamlessly. Feel free to shoot us a message, book a meeting thru our website or respond to this post if your company could use a hand with their integrations.

When managing any IT related project, there are a few things you need to keep track of. Most people like to use the R.A.I.D framework for this. In case you haven't heard of it, below is an explanation.

Risks - These are events that may occur during a project that have a negative affect on the project.

Assumptions - Pretty straightforward, but these are 'assumptions' you and your team are making about the project that haven't been proven yet. Often you clear these up with some discovery.

Issues - These are problems that come up that have to be dealt with. Usually thru a decision or a task. Often these materialize out of Risks or Assumptions.

Dependencies - No project is just a single task and often tasks are dependent on other things being completed first. Mapping these out will help your project run smoothly.

If you track all these and your tasks for a project your nearly guaranteed to succeed. Most companies don't even think about the possible issues or dependencies they may face in a project before they get started. Let alone make user stories or testing scenarios.

Earlier I posted about the R.A.I.D. framework for project management. One thing I don't like about it is you often lose sight of important Decisions and Tasks while your focusing on Assumptions and Dependencies etc... For my projects I like to use my own framework I call the D.I.R.T. framework. Let me break it down for you!

Decisions - These are important action points for your project. Especially in the IT world you run into situations where you have to pick one way or the other. Documenting these decision points is key when you get to the end of a project and stakeholders ask why a key feature was changed or why a screen was altered.

Issues - Can't escape this one! Issues usually materialize out of Risks and you have to track them. Every project will have Issues that arise, but you can usually handle them with a Decision. Such as 'we are only going to migrate data after x date so we don't need to clean the old legacy data'. Documenting issues and the decisions taken to address them is key for any project.

Risks - These are prevalent with any project. An API might work differently than you scoped the project, or a library that is key to the project might lose its support or backers. I always like to tie Risks back to a Decision also so that we know 'if this happens we will handle it this way'. Just helps keep the project going.

Tasks - This seems very straight forward but Tasks are one of the most important things you need to track in a project. As part of this you do need to track dependancies too, but I like being able to add tasks to a project and link them to a decision or a risk or issue.

You could argue this is semantics, but for most project management systems your creating lines in a spreadsheet or cards with dependencies. Tracking Decisions, Issues, Risks and Tasks as line items in your project this way makes it super easy for anyone involved to see your blockers or problems or what your working on. Plus its fun to say 'show me your project's DIRT!'.

When your building a new web project or progressive web app, it can be hard to choose a front end framework. Let me break down the benefits and disadvantages of the top 3 web front end frameworks for you to make it easier!

React is by far the most popular framework these days. It was originally created in 2011 at facebook but is now used widely in web and mobile applications. React is extremely flexible with the most 3rd party libraries out of the popular front end frameworks, but can be bulky and complex for most applications. One main advantage is its so popular that its easy to find developers who have experience in it.

Angular was actually invented (at Google) before react, although its not as popular as React. But its a bit more fleshed out as a fully fledged framework whereas React is more focused on the front end only. Also you develop in Angular thru the typescript 'language' (which is a strongly typed version of javascript). Typescript is hard to get the hang of but can catch many errors early in the development processes. While not as popualr as React, Angular is used by many large corporations and has a large following. But it is even bulkier than React because of all the features it comes with. So if you are looking for a fast loading framework and speed is key, you might want to stay away.

Vue is the 'new kid' of the big 3 frameworks and is a middle ground between the two. It has more features like Angular, but is not bloated and can be implemented incrementally in your code base. Its ecosystem is much smaller than React or Angular, meaning there is less corporate support and its harder to find developers, but it is easier for developers to learn compared to React and Angular.

If you have a web app or software project and need a hand, feel free to pm me or reply to this post. We would be happy to take a look!

Considering a Migration from Office 365 to Google Workspace or Vice Versa? Here's How to Prepare:

Data Inventory:
- Catalog all the data that needs migration. Is it client-related or personal employee data?
- Encourage team members to centralize their critical data in a common space like SharePoint or Google Drive. This approach simplifies the migration process, allowing the migration team to manage data effectively. Post-migration, the migration team can assist in redistributing the data to individual accounts.
- Use a spreadsheet to track key files and folders, ensuring all critical data is successfully transferred. Otherwise you might forget something!

Email and Account Inventory:
- Determine the number of email accounts needing migration. Consider whether old accounts are necessary and if calendars and contacts should be included in the migration. The volume of historical data to be migrated can influence the migration timeline.

Validate Domain Ownership and Access:
-If you're changing domains or need email forwarding setups, ensure access to modify DNS and MX records is available. This step is crucial for redirecting emails properly.

Plan Your Migration Day:
- Select an optimal date and time for the migration. We recommend scheduling during periods of low activity, such as a long weekend, to minimize impact on daily operations.
