If you’re a Marine you know that the Marine Corps and L3Harris somehow completely punted the PRC-163 fielding and dropped the ball on the cabling.

put in some work with the input from the good men of V36 to design a new cabling solution that natively integrates with the Atlantic Signal Invictus SS program of record PTT and the MCH, so you can sling data over ANW2 or TSM (whenever that makes it to the fleet). I’ve been handing these cables out to some dudes to test in the field and they’ve been loving them.

This is by far the most streamlined cabling for the equipment at hand - it beats the s**t out of the Harris default 6-pin NATO solution. And it’s also the most affordable. I know that because I asked Protocable to help beat pricing on other whacked out offerings so that Marines can get the right solution. We are unbelievably passionate about streamlined solutions for Marines that reduce kit - rather than create snag hazards, and integrate flawlessly with your equipment.

We have also added a new curriculum - “RTO ADVANCED” which will cover infrastructure networks. To include high throughput networks capable of streaming video, hosting services such as ATAK, web servers, etc., radio repeater installation and networking. This is the next logical step for the preparedness oriented group of citizens. And “RTO BASICS” is a mandatory pre-requisite of this course. I am going to start a series on my Instagram story called “GRIFT or GOOD VALUE”. I’ll simply introduce a topic, product, or person and allow you guys to weigh in on a poll. The objective is to generate a discussion around products that prioritize profitability over quality, capability, originality, or substance.

Over time, I’ve seen more and more things in the radio space attempt to pass as something they’re not. Whether it be unqualified instructors presenting bum curriculums from a position of supposed authority, or products which are just repackaged old technology as a cheap way to score a quick buck off consumers. As a community of people broadening our collective horizons to the topic of RF, there are ever increasing threats to our personal and professional development by incorrect or worse - intentionally deceitful information which costs our valuable time to learn and then twice as long to unlearn when we see the error of our ways.

For those evangelizing products, the ability to hold a conversation about waveform by its physical layer properties, modulation, multiplexing, the inherent tradeoffs therein, db math and free space path loss, SNR, etc etc etc is the MINIMUM barrier to entry for being able to pass judgement on any radio thing to a public audience. Despite the trash talk HAM radio operators get, many are indeed running circles around you in this regard.

I do not care if this is harsh. This is personal to me - the consequences of zero accountability in this discipline are simply too grave for those who are supported by it.

NOAA is calling for a massive geomagnetic storm tomorrow that has the potential to impact wireless communications. Cellular outages and cyber attacks are becoming increasingly regular.

The upcoming “RTO BASICS” course in Conroe, TX hosted by , will be the first to offer students the opportunity to earn the coveted “LUX SEMITA” patch. I want to share a unique feature of the Hytera HM782 radio with you.

This radio boasts the IP Transit feature, meaning that distant installations of these mobile radios can be located interconnected over an IP infrastructure such as your local ISP network to remote sites.

All handhelds and mobile radio traffic on this channel will communicate over this pipe to remote stations in your network operating on the IP Transit Mode feature.

This means that you could connect a network of users in California to those in New Jersey. Or more importantly you could establish your own off grid IP infrastructure such as a local Ubiquiti network which does not rely on the wider Internet to connect distant sites.

This is not a new technology. It’s a common technique in amateur radio and trunked repeater systems such as county, state, or federal networks. Hytera’s hardware and software makes it achievable at an affordable price for you. My favorite thing about these radios is how scalable they are and how you can start small and add features later as you grow your network to accommodate your users.
