Once I read this article on freelancing and the author designed websites. Her article was about finding clients and one of her tactics was to send mock-ups to potential clients giving them a rebrand or face lift on their website.

I thought this was mighty inventive- thought I’d give it a try. I was cruising around Eventhi.io and felt inspired to remix one cover photo, and design other one that was missing from an event page- then sent them as a gift to the event producers.

Let’s see if they open the email 🤣

I still enjoyed creating these online event covers. I particularly enjoy the research process. Learning about the events, the hosts and or performers or guest. The mission behind the event.

Creating space for entertainment or education is something to be celebrated. These acts build community. Uniting people.

When tasked with creating the event graphic for this epic night, our client dreamed of bringing a playful spin to the classic vibe of "Mystery Science Theater 3000." The idea? A modern, fun setting where cheesy 80s movies meet our favorite green buddy. To capture this spirit, I used modern silhouettes of our awesome hosts, Steve Zaragoza and Matt Raub, in front of a movie screen showcasing a quintessentially over-the-top 80s action scene.

The result is a vibrant, engaging flyer that pops with nostalgia yet feels entirely fresh and current. It’s all about setting the perfect mood for a night where bad movies and good w**d come together to deliver unforgettable laughs and relaxation.

"Thirsty Thursdays," is an event where we celebrate the art of the mocktail in classic Mid-Century Modern style! 🍹🌿 This series is not just about delicious, herbal, non-alcoholic drinks; it's a nod to a design era that changed the world.

When envisioning the promotional flyer for this event, our host was clear: they wanted a Mid-Century Modern aesthetic that reflected the period's iconic simplicity and integration with nature. Inspired by the atomic age designs of the 1950s and 1960s, we embraced a color palette bursting with vibrant greens, turquoise, and mustard. The atomic motifs and geometric patterns in the background pay homage to the technological optimism of that era.

The artwork features stylized, streamlined illustrations of guests enjoying their time—reflective of Mid-Century art's emphasis on form and color. With clean, sans serif typography and a layout that’s both dynamic and playful, our flyer invites you into a world that’s both retro and refreshingly modern.

The final design received rave reviews for capturing the essence of the era while creating an inviting visual for our newest event. It’s not just a flyer; it’s a gateway to experiencing the sophisticated, relaxed vibes of our Thirsty Thursdays. Come unwind with us in style!

For this special event, we brought the essence of 1970s GoGo girls to life, all while celebrating the bold spirit of drag. Inspired by the iconic style of Beyoncé's Carter Cowboy flyer, we aimed to capture a graphic, cut-out feel that resonates with the modern aesthetic yet feels like a nostalgic throwback to a groovy era.

Our initial design leaned more towards realistic visuals of a drag show, but after discussing with Flambowence, we shifted gears towards a more graphic and playful style. The client wanted to include a "newspaper" feel with trendy cut-outs and specific verbiage from our original concept. The colorful backgrounds, bold fonts, and psychedelic patterns reflect this vision.

🌟 Feedback from Flambowence: "THIS IS AMAZING!! Super fun and retro, and communicated it all so well."

Creating this flyer was a thrilling journey of bold choices and creative exploration. I'm so glad it brought the client's vision to life and added an extra sparkle to this fabulous event! 🌈👠

This design journey was deeply inspired by my client's rich background in improv, especially his roots in iconic venues like The Second City and iO. He envisioned a flyer that diverged from the typical stand-up comedy aesthetic, seeking something more theatrical to echo the storied environments where he honed his craft.

To fulfill this vision, I chose a color palette and font that pay homage to these historic improv theaters, blending a sense of tradition with a fresh, modern twist. The result is a design that not only captures the essence of live improv but also stands out as distinctly unique in the comedy scene.

The client's response? "This looks fantastic! I really love the design, the colors, the logo you chose; a lot of creativity was put into this and it shows! This really looks special and unique." His enthusiasm for the final product is a testament to our collaborative effort to merge his improv legacy with contemporary design elements.

This flyer isn't just an announcement; it's a tribute to the art of improv comedy, inviting everyone not just to watch but to participate.

My absolute favorite type of design is event marketing assets. I love bringing the essence of an event alive through design. I continue to work with The Green Room to help build a community space where we can have fun, learn and unite with like minded people. I am pretty bad at keeping up with my own social media. I will be putting more focus on keeping this page updated with all the new designs I am making for event producers through The Green Room!

This flyer is for the amazing Dani Joy. Dani Joy is your serene guide through the transformative journey of all her yoga classes at The Green Room.
