Before we install a single speaker, we hang it in software first.

This is a model of the room. The warm colors show where the sound reaches the seats. The cool colors show where we kept it away, mainly the stage. Keeping sound off the platform means less feedback and an easier Sunday for whoever is running the board.

It's much easier to get this right on a screen than to fix it after the speakers are up.

Heard a loud thump when the sound system comes on? It's usually the order things were powered up.

The rule is simple: amps on last, amps off first.

Before Sunday:
1. Turn on the console, stage boxes and processing
2. Give everything time to boot
3. Turn on amplifiers and powered speakers last

After the service, reverse it: amps and powered speakers off first, then everything else.

If you have a power sequencer, it does this for you. Still, make sure your team knows the manual order and where the backup switch is.

Not a bad send-off. Our crew flew out of Seattle (that's Mt. Rainier under the moon) to install a new sound system and LED wall for City Light Church in Toledo, Ohio. Swipe for where the flight ended up.

The install may look finished. The work isn’t.

Ken and Mark, CCI’s Engineering Manager, were on site commissioning this system—working through the final testing, configuration, tuning, and verification before the project is complete.

There’s a lot that happens after the last piece of equipment is installed.

This is part of making sure the system doesn’t just look finished—it performs the way it was designed to.
