Started off 2024 by waiting until the last day to take (and pass) a wifi certification exam. Geek Speak alert: the CWIIP focuses on IoT (Internet of Things), which are non-human devices that are connected by wifi to the internet.

I supported the Axe Throwing contest this weekend at Jenks Riverwalk, along with Encore Communications https://www.okencore.com/ who supplied the internet bandwidth. I supplied four Ruckus Wifi access points.
You can see the before and after pictures of the improved wifi coverage of the Axe Throwing event area.
The grey colored area in the Before photo is a wifi dead zone, where 300 competitors attended the event. Yellow to green areas can support buffering-free streaming video.

The April 23 decision could open up 1,200 MHz of new bandwidth for next-gen, Wi-Fi 6E devices.

Wifi at home due to the Corona virus situation:
With so many people working from home due to the Corona virus issue, many people might buying terrible wifi equipment.
Here is my advice about improving home wifi; 1) what can you do for free, 2) what can you do at low cost, and 3) when do you spend $$$ to fix the problem.
1) Free: move your wifi router/AccessPoint/device *off the floor*. Furniture absorbs radio energy; moving the Wifi device to tabletop height might improve quality.
2) Low cost: buy a longer Cat6 cable, and move the wifi AP/router **closer to where people sit & use wifi in your home.** The stronger the signal, the higher the wifi quality.
3) ***Do NOT install a wifi repeater or wifi extender.*** Wifi repeaters/extenders trade off range for speed; a single repeater can cut wifi throughput in half, for the entire house.
4) Spend $$$: If you want to buy a better wifi router/AP at a big box retailer, look for the following features: external antennas, 3X3 MIMO, 802.11 AC, such as a Netgear R7000.
5) If your home is larger than 2,000 sq ft, you might need two wifi router/AP’s, and the only home repeater wifi product I endorse is the Orbi AC3000. The Orbi AC3000 has a third radio feature that really works, is not marketing sleaze. https://www.netgear.com/orbi/rbk50.aspx

This is BFN: Big Freaking News:
FCC just authorized Spectrum for WiFi that doubles today’s capacity.
Sort of like when CB radio went from 23 channels to 40 channels.

It is now all but guaranteed that 1.2 GHz of additional spectrum will be allocated to Wi-Fi in the 6 GHz bands. This historic decision by the FCC will reverberate decades into the future.
