Scammers are placing fake QR codes on parking meters, flyers and even in emails to steal logins and payment info. It's called "quishing."

Before you scan:
• Look for stickers placed over the original code
• Preview the link first
• Never enter login or payment info from a code you didn't expect

• Was I expecting this?
• Does this seem normal for the sender?

Traveling abroad? Tell your IT provider before you go.

Many businesses use geofiltering to protect their accounts. When a sign-in comes from outside approved countries, the account locks automatically. The system cannot tell the difference between you on vacation and an attacker on the other side of the world.

We have seen this a lot recently. The people who got locked out were doctors, CEOs, vacationers and business travelers. Every one of them was legitimate. Several were on a business trip they had not mentioned to us, and their accounts locked at 2:00 in the morning.

A quick heads up before you leave solves it. Send your IT team the countries you will visit and your travel dates, and we can make sure you get in while the rest of your accounts stay protected.

Not sure whether your business has geofiltering turned on? Ask your IT provider. It is a much easier conversation before the trip than from a hotel lobby at 2:00 AM.

But every skipped update can leave a known security hole open, and attackers look for exactly that.

Quick fixes:
• Turn on automatic updates
• Restart regularly so updates can finish
• Don't forget browsers and phones

Some passwords get around. 😬

If the same password works for your email, your bank and your payroll, one compromised account can put all of them at risk.

Here's what to do instead:
• Use a unique password for every account
• Make them long (a short phrase works great)
• Skip birthdays, pet names and anything predictable
• Let a password manager do the remembering
