There is a deep, foundational tradition in Hawai’i called Mālama ‘Āina — the relationship between people and the land they live with. It centers reciprocity — we nurture the land and the land nurtures us. Mālama ‘Āina speaks to our responsibility to care for our waters, our air, our lands and our finite natural resources. And it calls us to be protective of the natural world, to help ensure it can sustain the future generations to come.
