There’s a version of this industry where the credits roll, the wrap party happens, and the next morning half the crew is looking at a job three states away.
This week, California lawmakers passed a fix to keep that from happening as often. A new tax credit cap almost undercut the state’s $750M film incentive program — the same program that’s been quietly keeping productions, and the people who work on them, close to home. Independent films are now fully protected from the cap, and studios get their credits back faster, which means more certainty to greenlight the next project here instead of somewhere else.
It’s easy to talk about visual effects as pixels and render times. But underneath every shot is somebody’s commute, somebody’s kid’s school, somebody’s decision not to have to choose between their career and their community. That’s what a fix like this actually protects.
We build workstations for the artists who make this industry what it is — and we’re always glad to see California fight to keep that work, and those artists, right here.

Fifteen years ago, this little superhero couldn’t wait to become Spider-Man.

Looking back at this photo brings a huge smile to my face.

Now, as a proud dad, I get to share another Spider-Man adventure with him as we head to see Spider-Man: Brand New Day this Weekend!

Time flies, but some traditions are worth holding onto.

As someone who works in the entertainment technology industry, moments like this also remind me that every blockbuster is about so much more than what we see on the screen.

Behind every unforgettable scene are thousands of artists, VFX professionals, editors, engineers, technicians, production crews, and storytellers who spend years bringing these worlds to life.

✨ Hollywood is changing the game.

A recent Business Insider article I read this week highlighted something many in the industry have been feeling: original films are making a comeback.

Movies like Backrooms and Obsession—built on fresh ideas, passionate creators, and relatively modest budgets—have outperformed some of the industry’s biggest franchise releases.

That’s a powerful reminder that audiences still connect with great storytelling.

The photos in this post are especially meaningful to me.

Years ago, I had the privilege of working alongside these 2 talented creators. One image shows a filmmaker behind the camera in front of an LED wall, bringing a story to life. The other shows a creator at a workstation, composing music and shaping the emotional heartbeat of a film.

Today, they’re out in the world pursuing their own creative journeys, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.

In many ways, I look at them like my own sons. Watching them grow, develop their craft, and follow their passion has been one of the most rewarding parts of this industry.

These photos remind me that behind every camera, every workstation, every LED wall, and every piece of technology is a person with a dream, a vision, and a story to tell.

At VFX Technologies, we believe technology is important—but it’s the people behind it who truly make the difference.

The future of filmmaking won’t be defined solely by bigger budgets or larger studios. It will be shaped by creators willing to take risks, pursue original ideas, and inspire others through their work.

According to a recent Hollywood Reporter article I read this week, studios are now creating permanent standing sets specifically designed for microdramas and vertical storytelling.

Smaller crews.
Faster production cycles.
Mobile-first audiences.
Stories built for phones instead of theaters.

And honestly?

This may be one of the biggest shifts in entertainment production in years.

The future studio may not need hundreds of people and massive infrastructure.

It may need:
• a lean creative team
• faster workflows
• powerful post-production systems
• scalable storage
• reliable rendering pipelines
• and the ability to move quickly without sacrificing quality

Technology alone doesn’t create great storytelling.

But the right infrastructure gives creators the freedom to keep creating.
