NEW BLOG: How do you design a cooling system for an electric race car built to handle the demands of a 22 km endurance event? For the Formula Electric at Berkeley team, that meant keeping critical components within their thermal limits without adding unnecessary complexity.

Using simulation and real-world competition requirements, the team developed a cooling strategy built for demanding race conditions, with San Ace fans playing a role in the final design. Our latest blog looks at how that system came together, the engineering decisions behind it, and how SANYO DENKI AMERICA, INC. made this possible.

Large refrigeration and HVAC systems can require multiple fans to achieve the airflow they need. The new 280 × 50 mm San Ace 280 9GA DC Fan and San Ace 280W 9WGA Splash Proof Fan provide up to 1,024 CFM from a single large-format fan.

For equivalent cooling performance, selected models reduce power consumption by approximately 12% compared with four San Ace 172W 9WE fans operating in parallel. Both series operate from -40°C to +70°C, while the 9WGA Splash Proof Fan adds IP56 protection for environments exposed to water and dust.

Two axes should not require twice the space.
In an X-Y pick-and-place gantry, the X and Y axes must work together through continuous acceleration, positioning, and deceleration. But using separate servo amplifiers for each axis adds panel space, wiring, and integration work.

The SANMOTION G 2-axis integrated AC servo amplifier controls both axes from one compact unit.

Compared with using two single-axis amplifiers, it provides:
• 38% less installation footprint
• 19% lower amplifier weight
• 35% less cable wiring
• 18% lower power loss at rated output

The integrated design also allows regenerative energy generated by one decelerating axis to be reused by the other axis.

With support for synchronized operation and independent programmable positioning, SANMOTION G helps machine builders design more compact pick-and-place, packaging, assembly, and inspection equipment while simplifying installation and commissioning.

Reduce the control footprint without reducing motion capability.

New Blog! EtherCAT vs. EtherNet/IP: Choosing the Right Network for Motion Control

EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP are both widely used Industrial Ethernet technologies, but they are not built for the same job.
For motion control, the right choice starts with one question:
What does the machine need most?

If the application depends on fast, synchronized servo motion, low jitter, and predictable communication timing, EtherCAT is often the stronger fit.

If the application is focused more on PLC communication, HMI communication, discrete I/O, and plant-level network integration, EtherNet/IP may be the more practical choice.

For OEMs and machine builders, the decision should not start with the protocol name. It should start with the machine requirement.

In this article, we break down where EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP fit in motion control systems, when each network makes sense, and how SANYO DENKI supports both approaches through SANMOTION servo systems and controllers.

High-Performance Motion Control, Made Smarter
Modern machines need more than fast motion. They need synchronized control, easier expansion, and better visibility when something goes wrong.

The SANYO DENKI SANMOTION C S300 Motion Controller is designed for high-speed, multi-axis machine control with practical diagnostics built in.

Key capabilities include:
• Control of up to 32 axes
• 1 ms communication cycle for fast synchronized motion
• High-speed EtherCAT connectivity
• Support for EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, and Modbus TCP
• CODESYS-based software environment
• Built-in drive recorder for axis data and EtherCAT communication data
• Motion and video diagnostics to support faster troubleshooting
• CNC function for Cartesian, SCARA, and parallel-link robot control

For OEMs building more advanced automation systems, motion control is not only about speed. It is also about reducing troubleshooting time, simplifying system integration, and giving engineers proof when diagnosing machine behavior.

Building cloud infrastructure at the rack level requires every component to support the performance and efficiency of the complete system.

In its Cloud Computer, Oxide Computer Company worked with SANYO DENKI AMERICA, INC.SANYO DENKI AMERICA, INC to develop a lower minimum fan speed that supports efficient cooling while helping the rack operate at an unexpectedly quiet noise level.

Meet Aritra Dhar, our summer intern from the UCLA Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. At SANYO DENKI AMERICA, INC., he gained hands-on experience with servo motors and the components used in real-world motion control applications.

During his internship, Aritra built an I/O box for testing motor setups, worked with CAD software and 3D printing, expanded his product knowledge, and participated in customer walkthroughs. He also collaborated closely with our servo application engineering team, gaining insight from the technical knowledge and experience shared throughout each project.

Biggest takeaway: developing a stronger interest in servo technology while seeing how engineering work moves beyond the classroom and into practical applications.

Thanks for a great summer, Aritra!
