One of my favorite parts of working in Procreate on my iPad for digital paintings and renderings is the ability to see the timelapse of projects as they unfold. Lots of erasing and adding, samples thrown in for colors or figuring out textures that go with the feel of the subject.

These are just three of the plaques for the Maibaum Maypole each created using historical reference photos or current locations.
If only I could zoomy zoomy as fast as this on all my drawing and painting projects! ;)

2026 has become a bit of going back to my Missouri roots kind of year for me. Especially when it comes to big art and design projects. It has brought me back to my home state several times this year to see my work with some of my favorite clients truly be brought to life.
It’s been a day or two since leaving Missouri and wrapping up a weekend at the 40th Anniversary Saint Charles Oktoberfest. Finding a second to breathe and appreciate the sheer amount of work that went into this year’s festival and more specifically the Maibaum Maypole.

The journey of the newest landmark in St Charles started back in 2024 with a big longtime coming idea, a German inspired Maibaum Pole set to be 30ft and installed permanently in front of the Jacees Stage Pavilion in Frontier Park in Historic downtown St. Charles.

The finished Maypole features 16 custom 26”x30” plaques. Each a digitally painted rendering highlighting Saint Charles’s unique & timeless history. Brought to life using historical photos, research, and of course, a little bit of my Hannah Maria magic.

I have to give a gigantic, heartfelt shout-out to Heather Kuhn with Saint Charles Oktoberfest. Heather, thank you for always believing in me, no matter how massive the project. You work so hard and on so many fronts and deciphering weird artist Hannah speak at 1am is a real talent.

I was asked to throw together the initial concept and mockup for maypole right before 2024’s festival, followed by a hectic 2025 festival design run, jumping straight into 2026's 40th Anniversary festival and throwing finishing the Maibaum Maypole as well into the mix.
Being part of the maypole coming to life over the last two years, and getting to be present for the naming ceremony this last year and seeing it stand tall in the park this weekend has been awesome.

Thankful to be the artist to work on this, and very proud of all the hard work! Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate as well!! ❤️

I was so honored when Shauna Marie Martin asked me to design her invitations to her solo exhibition. Projects like these and so many of my other longtime design clients' projects is a gift of finding the right fit of images and for Shauna that blend of classic font with just a little flow that creates the sending "Mending together" for her solo show.

Make visible the quiet work of healing, transition and transformation through loss.

Shauna's work is quietly full of strength, healing and grace.... and as the many people who have visited her studio while I am there will account for me saying "You can touch it"
Opening Reception is October 3rd 6pm-8pm Ardest Gallery in The Woodlands and the exhibition will be up all month long.

Shauna Martin's solo show "The Mending Project" will open with a reception on Saturday, October 3rd from 6-8PM.

Statement from the artist-
My work, The Mending Project, is rooted in the belief that creative practice is a form of healing. Each piece begins with a symbolic wound and slowly transforms through layering, stitching, and repair-like gestures that mirror emotional processing. I want people to know that my work invites them to pause, breathe, and see their own cracks and frayed edges as places of possibility rather than failure or end. In this space, art functions as therapy: a quiet, tactile way to tend to what hurts, to honor what has been broken, and to imagine it made whole in a new and beautiful way, but always in remembrance of the one(s) who are no longer walking alongside us.

It was a great weekend!
Special year being here for festival seeing all the things I work on all year come to life!

From a 30ft Maibaum Maypole with recognizable historical sights of Saint Charles to a b**r tent entrance sign or race medal and tshirt it’s alway a great feeling!

6,000 𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒆, on a misty morning rose a prophetic vision above the oceans waves, capturing the student midwife’s spirit-revealing the ancient past and returning future of midwifery-through her hands.

“𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑺𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌” is the documentary film, carrying the story and the trailblazing path of Midwife Okunsola, as she founded, built and led Jamaa Birth Village-defying the odds, winning victorious battles for her community, re-building the village and revolutionizing the return of African Indigenous Midwifery-all while the ancestors and water spirits sang back to her.

Yesterday was an eventful day! From dedication and naming ceremony for the Maibaum Pole in Frontier Park during the day to Burgermeister Ball at Foundry Art Centre. A night of live painting and enjoying seeing all the designs and art I’ve been working on for the last year! Love seeing it all come together and even more coming up next weekend for the 40th Anniversary Saint Charles Oktoberfest
