This Root Beer wood has me seeing circles.

Turning this Sassafras wood on stream and i am always amazed at how sucked in i can get just watching circles turned on a lathe.

Do you think these Sassafras shavings could make Root Beer?

Turned some sassafras on stream the other day. The shop smells great and i enjoyed how easy this wood turned!

We’ve had these prints from Hatch Show Print Est. 1879 for years now. After getting the third one to complete the set I didn’t have the same wood for the frames anymore. So we decided to head down to Rebuilders Xchange 📍Cleveland, Ohio in Cleveland to see what they had to offer. We found these awesome old machine shop floorboards that fit the feeling of these great prints.

The boards were rough in spots but thanks to some CA Glue and Epoxy from Starbond Premium Superglues we were able to close up the nail holes and damaged wood. And then slapped a coat of Odie's Oil on the boards to give it a nice finish. These things look rough but turned out to be so smooth.

Now to just work on finishing the video of the whole process. It’s great to do a fun project that involves bring together 4 great American companies to make something I’m proud to show off and display. These were what I was cutting on the table saw when I had that kickback.

The ultimate shop mail day has arrived! 📦🔥

A brand new package just landed from Savage Industries, and if you’re a fan of Adam Savage, you already know the kind of heavy-duty, thoughtfully designed maker gear they put out. I’ve been itching to add this piece to my daily workshop routine, and it finally cleared shipping.

But before I pull it out of the cardboard... I want to test your maker knowledge! 🛠️👀

👇 Drop your absolute best guess in the comments right now. Is it an upgraded canvas tool bag? A custom shop apron? A precision measuring setup?

Don't cheat by watching to the end first! Let's see who gets it right.

The woodworking road trip paid off big time! 🚗💨🪵

After talking on stream about how badly I wanted to turn some Sassafras, I finally made a run out to Kencraft Hardwoods in Toledo, Ohio—and they did not disappoint. I managed to track down a beautiful piece of Sassafras to bring back to the shop.

For those who missed the stream, Sassafras is famous among woodworkers because the shavings smell exactly like fresh root beer when you turn it on the lathe. Just prepping this piece to load into the shop, the aroma is already wild. I absolutely cannot wait to mount this blank and fill the entire workshop with that nostalgic scent! 🏺✨

Huge shoutout to the crew at Kencraft for having an incredible selection. Now, it's time to make some shavings fly!

The ultimate workshop organization upgrade is finally happening! 🛠️📐

I’m hanging four heavy sheets of plywood across the shop walls today, and it is going to completely change how this space functions. Standard drywall just doesn't cut it when you’re trying to mount heavy tool racks, custom chisel tills, or turning gouge brackets. You end up limited by where your studs are, or messing around with plastic drywall anchors that eventually pull loose.

By skinning the walls in solid plywood, the entire surface becomes a structural mounting point. I can pull a tool out of a mystery bag, build a custom holder for it in five minutes, and screw it directly into the wall wherever it makes the most sense. Continuous layout flexibility!

How do you store your tools? Are you a pegboard fan, a French cleat purist, or do you just pile them on the closest flat surface? Let me know below! 👇

Don't blink, or you'll miss the exact moment a routine cut becomes a missile. 🛑🎥

I happened to be recording while ripping down an old oak floorboard for a picture frame project, and I caught a textbook table saw kickback on camera. If you watch the footage closely, the oak binds against the blade and shoots backward with unbelievable speed and force—straight into my stomach.

Honestly, seeing the playback is a massive reality check. My heavy canvas shop apron took the brunt of the impact, saving me from a serious puncture wound or a trip to the emergency room.

I'm sharing this video to show the raw power of these tools. Always stay out of the line of fire, use your riving knife, and never skip out on your safety gear. 🛡️🙌

Respect the tools, because they don’t have a conscience. 🪵🚫

We talk a lot about shop safety, but experiencing a true table saw kickback puts things into perspective real fast. I was prepping a maple blank on yesterday's stream, got a little too comfortable, and the blade caught the piece. It shot back with unbelievable force.

Honestly, my canvas apron is the only reason I'm standing at the lathe today instead of sitting in an emergency room waiting room. The impact left a crazy mark, but it kept the wood from breaking skin or doing serious damage.

We are officially turning this exact piece of maple today on stream to show that you can't let a close call scare you out of the shop—you just have to learn from it and suit up properly. 🛡️🙌

Be honest with me: Have you ever had a kickback scare that changed the way you operate your shop? Let's talk about it below. 👇

I admit it... I have a problem. 🙋‍♂️🪵

If you watch the live streams, you already know that I am completely addicted to turning Spalted Maple. There is just something about the way those wild black zone lines cut through the cream-colored wood that makes it impossible to put down. Every single block of wood is a completely unique lottery ticket—you never know exactly how the pattern will develop until you start throwing shavings.

Yes, it can be tricky to work with, and yes, it has soft spots that test your patience, but the final payoff is always worth it. It’s gallery-grade art straight from nature. 🏺✨

Be honest: What is that one wood species that you just can't stop buying or harvesting? Let's talk about our wood addictions in the comments! 👇
