⚡🔥 HIS & HERS TESLA CHARGERS 🔥⚡

This project started with a serious electrical failure — a burned EV receptacle, damaged charging equipment, and wiring that failed insulation testing.

Instead of simply replacing what burned, we rebuilt the installation the right way.

🔥 Removed the damaged Tesla charging circuit
⚡ Installed properly sized wiring for the continuous EV charging load
🛡️ Used quality MC cable and proper wiring methods
🔥 Fire-stopped penetrations through the structure
🔧 Tested the wiring before energizing
🚗 Installed a replacement Tesla charger
🚙 Added a second Tesla charger on the opposite side of the garage

The final result: HIS & HERS TESLA CHARGERS — clean, safe, and professionally installed.

EV chargers can pull substantial current for hours at a time. Proper conductor sizing, terminations, equipment selection, testing, and workmanship all matter.

Don’t just install an EV charger. Install it correctly.

⚠️ EV CHARGER FIRE DAMAGE — THIS IS WHY PROPER WIRE SIZING MATTERS ⚡🔥

We were recently called to investigate an electrical failure involving a Tesla Level 2 EV charging installation after significant overheating and fire damage occurred at the charging equipment.

What we found was serious.

The Tesla charger was capable of operating at 48 amps for an extended period of time. EV charging is considered a continuous electrical load, which means the circuit has to be sized accordingly. A 48-amp continuous load requires equipment and conductor ampacity sized for 125% of that load — 48A × 125% = 60A.

During our investigation, we discovered:

🔴 Significant heat and soot damage around the charging location
🔴 A severely burned charging plug
🔴 A melted and damaged NEMA 14-50 receptacle
🔴 Compromised existing wiring
🔴 One conductor that failed our insulation-resistance test, measuring approximately 0.179 MΩ
🟢 By comparison, another conductor tested at approximately 4000 MΩ

This is why we don’t simply look at something and say, “The wire looks OK.” We test the electrical system before putting it back into service.

WHAT WE DID

We removed the damaged equipment and compromised wiring and rebuilt the installation properly.

✅ Replaced the damaged Tesla charging equipment and associated wiring
✅ Installed properly sized copper conductors for the charging load
✅ Used high-quality metal-clad (MC) cable for the new installation
✅ Added a second Tesla charger on the opposite side of the garage for another vehicle
✅ Opened the necessary sections of the walls and ceiling so the wiring could be properly routed through the structure
✅ Drilled the framing as necessary rather than taking shortcuts with the wiring installation
✅ Fire-stopped penetrations through floors and structural assemblies
✅ Tested the electrical system before energizing the new equipment
✅ Left the homeowner with a clean, professional installation designed for long-term EV charging

One of the most important things homeowners should understand is that installing a larger breaker does not automatically make an EV charging circuit safe.

Conductor ampacity, wiring method, continuous-load calculations, connections, terminations, equipment ratings, workmanship and proper testing all matter.

EV chargers can operate at high current for hours at a time. A mistake that might not immediately show itself can generate heat repeatedly every time the vehicle charges.

Electrical work is one area where the lowest price can become the most expensive option.

⚡ Don’t gamble with EV charging. Hire a qualified, licensed electrician who understands EV charging systems, continuous loads and proper electrical installation practices.

Safety first. Code-conscious installation. Quality workmanship.

⚡ Did You Know?

One of the most common electrical problems we find in homes is overloaded circuits.

Signs you may have an overloaded circuit include:
• Breakers that trip repeatedly
• Lights that dim when appliances start
• Warm or discolored outlets
• Extension cords being used as permanent wiring

These are often early warning signs that your electrical system may need attention.

At Tri-Phase Electric & A/V Inc., we perform professional troubleshooting, repairs, panel upgrades, EV charger installations, lighting, generators, and more.

If something doesn’t seem right with your electrical system, don’t ignore it. A small issue today can become a much larger (and more expensive) problem later.
