Terre Haute North Amateur Radio Club

Terre Haute North Amateur Radio Club We are a group of high school students at Terre Haute North interested in and actively pursuing the hobby of Amateur Radio.

Our club was established at the end of the 2013-2014 school year when 11 students were licensed. There had previously been a club at North, but it had been inactive for many years and there was no remnants from the old station. Our vanity club station call sign is K9THN (previously KD9CBQ.) Jeff Hammers, KD9BHP, the Electronics Teacher at North, is the club sponsor.

This weekend, June 27th and 28th, is Field Day! Everyone from the High School Club is invited (even if you don't have a license!)
For those of you who don't know Field Day is an annual event where amateur radio operators all over the nation setup emergency communication stations. This weekend it will be a contest, however this is also used as practice for emergency situations. In the contest you have to exchange certain information quickly and accurately just as you would in an emergency.
This year the WVARA Club is hosting their Field Day at the Cory Volunteer Fire Department, 500 South Center St. Cory, IN (maps and directions are below).
Friday @ 8 am starts setup and will continue through dinner time. Saturday @ 2pm starts the contest and ends Sunday at 2pm. (The full schedule is posted below.)
Students interested in Amateur Radio, Friday and Saturday morning during setup times are great opportunities to learn. During contest times you will be able to operate. There will be a Get on the Air station (GOTA Station). This station's purpose is to get new operators acquainted with the radio and the exchange of the contest. At this station a coach will be with you to help you through the process. Even if you don't have a license you can operate the GOTA station with the help of the coach. There will also be food. Hams like to eat! So come out have some fun and learn alot! I hope to see some of you out this weekend! And a BIG THANK YOU to the WVARA Club for the invite!

Today was the opening day of the School Club Round-up! We operated for 6 hours of the school day and made 31 contacts! We're not allowed to use repeaters on 2m and 440 but we are using the frequency 146.550 for simplex contacts and we would love to make some local contacts with all of you! We're operating from 9:20-3:20. We are also monitoring the K9IKQ repeater, so call K9THN and we can jump over to a 146.550. Thank you! I'll keep you all updated on our progress this week!
