A low failure rate doesn't always mean a low impact.

The 2026 Fire & Life Safety Inspection Benchmark Report found that smoke detectors generated the second-highest number of FireScan deficiencies, even though just 1.1% of smoke detectors inspected failed.

The reason? Volume.

Smoke detectors are among the most commonly inspected devices. Even with a relatively low failure rate, the sheer number inspected can translate into a significant number of deficiencies requiring attention.
