Your business probably has cybersecurity gaps right now.

Not because someone is lazy.
Not because your team doesn’t care.
Not because you need a giant enterprise security budget.

Usually, it’s smaller stuff:

• An old device that missed updates
• A reused password
• A suspicious login nobody noticed
• A phishing email that looked normal
• A server or cloud account nobody checks after hours

That’s how many real incidents start.

For small and mid-sized businesses, 24/7 cybersecurity is not about fear. It’s about catching small problems before they become downtime, data loss, or a very expensive cleanup.

Cyber threats don’t take days off. Neither do we.

Quick one for any small business owners reading this.

Open your Microsoft 365 admin center and look at your active users list. Count how many of those people still work for you.

For most small businesses, that number is wrong. Sometimes by a lot.

I ran into a 12-person firm recently with 19 active accounts. Seven of them belonged to former employees. One person had been gone for three years and still had access to the shared file drive and a quietly running email forwarding rule sending mail to an unknown Gmail address.

It's almost never malicious. It's just that nobody owns the offboarding process, so things drift.

I wrote up the full 15-minute fix on the blog if you want to walk through it yourself: https://www.powerful-it.com/blog/employee-offboarding-it-checklist-small-business/

Worth doing before the next person leaves.

Thinking about switching IT companies but dragging your feet because... well, switching IT companies sounds exhausting?
Good news. We're making it worth the move.

We just wrapped up a full network refresh for a client right here in Cedarburg.

This project included:

• Replacing outdated network equipment
• Installing and configuring 5 new Wi-Fi access points
• 30+ new network outlets/drops
• Repatching 100+ cables
• Splitting each floor so future tenants can bring in and connect their own equipment cleanly
• Fully configuring and testing everything
• Transferring network management back to the customer

The goal was simple: clean it up, modernize it, make it reliable, and set the building up for future tenants.

We help businesses all across Wisconsin with network design, upgrades, Wi-Fi, cabling cleanup, and full IT infrastructure projects.

If your network closet looks like the “before” picture - or you know it’s time for an upgrade - we’d be happy to take a look and see how we can help.

Heads up, business owners - phishing emails are absolutely everywhere right now. We see them hit client inboxes almost every single day.
Most of them aren't even that clever. But they don't need to be.
Real story: one of our clients recently got an email that looked like it came from one of their own employees, asking to update direct deposit info because they "switched banks." Pretty routine request on the surface.
The catch? The sender's domain was off by one letter. Just one.
Our system flagged it, we let the client know, and nothing happened. But without that catch, they would've wired thousands of dollars straight to a scammer.
A couple of quick tips:
✔ Always check the actual email address, not just the name it shows
✔ Any request involving money or banking info - pick up the phone and verify
✔ Make sure your IT provider is actively watching for this stuff
We handle cybersecurity and IT for small and midsized businesses across Southeast Wisconsin - 10 to 200 computers. If you ever want a second set of eyes on your setup, we're around.

Friendly reminder for local businesses:

Take a little time to teach your staff how to spot phishing emails, fake links, and scam messages.

A lot of problems start with something that looks completely normal at first.

Your team does not need to be technical. They just need to know what to watch for, when to slow down, and when to ask before clicking.

A little awareness goes a long way.

Somewhere in Southeast Wisconsin, a business owner is restarting the router for the third time today.

We’d like to meet that person.

We help local businesses that are tired of slow IT support, repeat issues, and cybersecurity getting pushed off until “later.”

That’s usually where we come in.

Less downtime. Better support. A setup that actually works.

We work with businesses across Southeast Wisconsin and like to keep things local.

Put together a quick checklist for anyone running Microsoft 365 at their business.

It covers the stuff we actually see misconfigured at almost every company we onboard — MFA gaps, admin accounts that double as daily email, shared mailbox permissions nobody's looked at in years, legacy auth protocols that bypass MFA entirely.

None of it costs money to fix. Most of it takes a few clicks.

If you're a business owner or office manager and you're not sure whether your M365 tenant is locked down, this is a good 5-minute gut check.

You'll drop 60 grand on a new truck for the fleet without blinking. But $2,000 a month to protect the data that runs your entire company? "We'll figure it out later."

Later is how businesses die.

I had a guy sit across from me, 25 computers, zero budget. Wanted an MSP because "everyone has one." I asked what he was trying to protect. Blank stare. So I told him don't bother. Not yet.

He left. Came back two months later after his systems went down and his crew sat around billing nothing for a day and a half. Funny how that works.

But here's what actually bothers me.

Most small business owners treat IT the same way they treat the fire extinguisher in the back hallway. They know it's there. They assume it works. They have never once checked.

You're gambling every single day. No ransomware. No data loss. Nobody on your team clicking something stupid in an email they shouldn't have opened. And the odds are getting worse, not better.

60% of small businesses that get hit with a major cyberattack close within six months. Not struggle. Close.

And when it happens, you'll call someone like me in a panic, hoping I can fix in two hours what you ignored for two years. Sometimes I can. A lot of times the damage is already done.

So honest question. What's your actual plan for when it happens to you?

Not if. When.
