I am traveling -- departed yesterday -- and my neighbors have informed me that power is currently out in the neighborhood. Dominion Virginia has not provided an estimated time that the power will be restored -- which means either they haven't surveyed the problem yet, or they're just not planning to restore power. 😅

It figures that power goes out the day after I depart. 🙄 Let's hope the servers come up clean... 🤞

I have a few extra minutes on a flight, so I'm looking at the header-parsing error on DMARC/DKIM emails where there's quoted content on the From line....

(If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you're not one of the affected parties.)

UPDATE: Dominion Energy appears to have beaten their estimate for power restoral! I am powering the servers back up.

The power is out here; it's been out for about 90 minutes, and the local power company expects power to be restored in about 6 hours (roughly 0900 ET). The UPSes are getting low, and definitely won't make it another 6 hours, so I've shut down the servers.

Even better: less than 4 hours after the projected power restoral, I'm supposed to be leaving for the airport -- so unless Dominion Energy hits its projected time, or at least something close, we might be down for an extended period..

Quick heads up: I'll be upgrading Hades this evening (hades.listmoms.net -- the server that hosts our production lists). It's a major OS revision upgrade, so 'fingers crossed' that it comes up clean. I'll post the apres-upgrade status in this thread.... --VS

Speaking of the new server: Gemini helped me put it together. Parts are on order; a couple have been delivered:

- DARKROCK Classico Storage Master case
- ASRock B650M PG Riptide motherboard
- AMD Ryzen 5 7600 processor
- 32GB (2x16GB) UECC DDR5
- 500GB SSD (Crucial P3 Plus M.2 2280 500GB) for the OS
- 4 WD Red Pro 6TB 7200 RPM hard drives (w/256MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s) to be configured as two RAID-1 devices for servers, data, and backup
- and a Thermaltake Smart BM3 750W 80Plus Bronze PSU (in hindsight, I should have sprung for the Gold, but I'll take my chances for now)

OS TBD. It'll be a Linux variant, likely Debian, but still TBD.

The adventure continues.... 🙂

LISTMOMS: I have started locking down POP3 access on Achilles. If you suddenly (or not-so-suddenly) find that you can't pick up POP3 email, contact me directly and I'll punch a hole for you.

FYI, we lost power around 1am last night; it was restored 12 hours later. We are now back up and running.

Servers will be going down for rack reconfiguration at 2200/10pm EDT this evening -- slightly more than 30 minutes from now.

For those who use "EST" (CST, MST, PST) year-round, that's 2100/9pm EST. 😊 Of note: I suspect these are the same people who can't figure out the International Date Line. 😅 Just a hunch.

I expect the reconfiguration to take an hour. I'll post when we're back up.

During our two-day power outage a few weeks ago, I shifted power around the various UPSes to keep services going as long as the UPSes had power. We left on vacation before utility power was restored, meaning I came home earlier this week to a 'mostly' functional rack of equipment, but not 'fully' functional. Further, the current UPS configuration is severely suboptimal.

To restore order, I will be bringing EVERYTHING down this evening (time TBD), restoring the proper configuration, and bringing it all back up. I expect this to take the better part of an hour.

I will post here before bringing the machines down, and will also apprise everyone when everything is back up.
