Most small-business owners have no idea. Not because they're not paying attention, but because nothing ever showed them.

We built a free website scanner that pulls back the curtain in about 60 seconds. No account required, no sales call attached to it. You put in your URL and you can see what Google sees: missing titles, slow load signals, gaps that might be quietly costing you visibility.

If you run a shop, a service business, or pretty much anything with a physical address in Iowa, this is worth 60 seconds of your time.

Run your scan free at marketingmainstreet.co/free-tools.html

County fairs are winding down. School supply lists are getting checked off. And if you drive east of Stuart on any given morning, the corn is already talking about what comes next.

September and October fill up fast in small-town Iowa, and the businesses that do well during fall are usually the ones that blocked out their promotion calendar before harvest season made everyone too busy to think straight.

This week, carve out 30 minutes. Look at your fall events, your seasonal specials, your community tie-ins. Write down what needs to be promoted and when. That list is your starting point.

If you want a second set of eyes on where to put that effort, that is exactly what we do. Start at marketingmainstreet.co/service-strategy.html or reach out at marketingmainstreet.co/contact.html

Every year I watch a small-town business plan a great fall event and then start promoting it the week before.

Nobody sees a post once and puts it on the calendar. They need to see it five, six, seven times before it sticks. That takes weeks, not days.

Then nobody shows up, and the owner decides marketing doesn't work. Marketing worked fine. The timeline didn't.

If you've got something planned for this fall, the time to start talking about it is now. Eight weeks feels like a long time. It goes fast.

What's your fall event? Drop it below. I'd genuinely like to see what's coming up around here.

Strong marketing starts with strong community connections.

Every conversation, every handshake, and every story shared helps build relationships that go beyond business. When Nate speaks, he's not just talking about marketing—he's talking about the people, partnerships, and local communities that make small businesses thrive.

At Marketing Main Street, we believe the best ideas come from listening, connecting, and investing in the communities we serve. Because great marketing isn't just about being seen—it's about building lasting relationships.

People don't buy websites.

They don't buy logos.

They don't buy marketing.

They buy confidence. Growth. Peace of mind. The outcome they're hoping for.

One of the biggest shifts you can make in your marketing is to stop talking about what you do and start talking about what your customers actually get.

👇 When your customers hire you, what are they really buying?

Being busy isn't the goal.

I've worn those long days and late nights like a badge of honor. Most business owners have.

But somewhere along the way, we started treating exhaustion like proof we're doing something right.

I don't think anyone starts a business hoping to work 80-hour weeks forever.

The goal isn't to stay busy.

The goal is to build a business that gives you choices, freedom, and a life you actually enjoy.

👇 What's one thing you've done that's given you more time back?

"We've always done it this way."

It sounds harmless.

Sometimes it means you've built something that works.

Other times, it's the sentence that quietly holds a business back.

When I owned Ruby's, we made a change that a lot of people questioned. Looking back, I can't imagine not making it.

The businesses that last aren't the ones chasing every trend. They're the ones willing to adapt when their customers do.

👇 What's one change your business made that turned out to be the right decision?

Posting on social media may seem like a small detail when running a business, but think about how easily it gives consumers information. Create a simple schedule, find your target audience, and get your business out there! We are here for any social media help, just reach out!

If I could go back and change one thing about owning Ruby's...

It wouldn't be the menu.
It wouldn't be the building.
It wouldn't even be the marketing.

I'd tell more stories.

We had live music, unforgettable customers, crazy events, and moments people still talk about today.

I was so busy running the business...

I forgot to document it.

Don't make that mistake.

Your business has stories worth telling.

👇 If you could go back and change ONE thing about your business, what would it be?

07/08/2026

Here's something that completely changed the way I think about marketing...

Your customers aren't thinking about your business nearly as much as you are.

And that's actually good news.

It means:

One slow post won't ruin your business.
One typo isn't the end of the world.
One quiet week doesn't mean you've failed.

Your customers don't notice one moment.

They notice the pattern.

Just keep showing up.

👇 What's something you've spent WAY too much time worrying about in your business that customers probably never even noticed?
