If your customers keep asking the same questions, they're basically handing you your content strategy.

Think about the questions you hear every week:

“How do I know if my pool needs resurfacing?”

“How long does it take?”

“What's the difference between these finishes?”

“Can you do this without replacing that?”

Whatever questions come up repeatedly in your business, write them down.

Then take ONE good answer and turn it into:

→ A short video
→ A social post
→ A website FAQ
→ An email
→ Something you can send to a lead during follow-up

Now you're not sitting around trying to think of clever things to post.

You're creating content around questions you already know your customers care about.

And as a bonus, the next time someone asks?

You already have something useful to send them.

Stop brainstorming. Start listening.

Your customers will tell you what content to create.

One question every pool company should start asking new customers:

“Why now?"

That answer is usually where the real marketing insight lives.

Maybe they just bought the house.

Maybe they finished the rest of the backyard.

Maybe they’re hosting family this summer.

Maybe the surface finally became too rough to ignore.

Maybe a service technician pointed something out.

Keep the exact answers.

After 10–20 customers, you’ll probably start seeing patterns.

Those patterns can become:

✅ better ads
✅ better emails
✅ better social content
✅ better offers

Good marketing gets much easier when you understand what caused someone to enter the market in the first place.

Most pool companies use almost the exact same call to action.

“Free estimate.”
“Free quote.”
“Contact us today.”

And honestly…

That’s become background noise to homeowners.

Because when every company says the same thing, the homeowner still doesn’t understand:
👉 Why one contractor is different
👉 Why pricing varies
👉 Who actually fits their situation best

A lot of marketing problems today aren’t necessarily visibility problems.

They’re clarity problems.

The companies standing out usually give people a reason to engage beyond:
👉 “Get a quote”

Sometimes it’s:
✅ Education
✅ Guidance
✅ Helping homeowners understand options
✅ Helping them avoid mistakes before making a decision

Huge difference.

Because the more value someone feels BEFORE the estimate…

The more trust usually exists DURING the estimate.

A lot of businesses assume every lead is in the same place mentally.

But that’s usually not true.

Some homeowners are:

- casually researching
- trying to understand their options
- figuring out timing and budget

Others have:

- already been thinking about resurfacing for months
- narrowed down finishes
- mentally decided they’re ready to move forward soon

Same inquiry.

Completely different level of readiness.

And honestly…

That changes how communication should happen.

One homeowner may need:
👉 clarity
👉 education
👉 confidence

Another may just need:
👉 responsiveness
👉 reassurance
👉 a clear next step

The companies that handle this best usually understand something important:

Different buyers need different conversations.

“Quality work” has become one of the most overused phrases in the pool industry.

Every contractor says it.

Every website says it.

Every quote says some version of:
👉 “We do quality work.”

But from a homeowner’s perspective…

What does that actually mean?

Because one contractor might mean:

- better prep
- better communication
- better materials
- better long-term durability

And another might just mean:

“the pool looked good when we left.”

Big difference.

That’s part of why homeowners get stuck comparing price.

Not because they only care about cost…

But because most companies sound almost identical on the surface.

The contractors who stand out usually do one thing differently:

They make the homeowner understand why their process matters long term.

Not just:

“We do quality work.”

But:

“Here’s what we do differently — and why it matters later.”

That’s where trust starts getting built.

A lot of conversations between contractors and homeowners stay focused on:

- pebble vs quartz
- prep work
- water chemistry
- why one quote is cheaper than another

And those things absolutely matter.

But from the homeowner’s perspective?

They’re usually thinking about something much simpler.

👉 They’re tired of rough spots scraping feet
👉 Tired of staring at stains every day
👉 Tired of avoiding having people over

They don’t just want a different finish.

They want the backyard to feel good again.

One thing I keep hearing...

The contractors who consistently win stronger renovation projects usually aren’t just better at explaining materials…

They’re better at explaining outcomes.

Not just:

“Here’s the finish.”

But:

“Here’s why this matters long term.”

Big difference.

Because when homeowners clearly understand the outcome…

Price stops being the only thing they compare.

When homeowners get multiple quotes for a pool…

They’re not just comparing price.

They’re trying to figure out:

👉 “Who feels like the safest choice here?”

Because from their perspective…

A lot of it looks the same:

- similar finishes
- similar photos
- similar promises

But the reality is—

Not every pool is built the same.

From conversations I’ve been having with guys who’ve been in this industry for decades…

The real differences come down to things like:

- how the pool is prepped
- how the structure is built
- how the materials are actually applied

That’s where jobs either hold up…

Or turn into problems later.

The challenge is—

Most homeowners aren’t taught how to evaluate that.

So they fall back on what they can evaluate:

- price
- reviews
- how the contractor communicates

And more often than not…

They choose the one that feels the most certain.

Not just the cheapest.

That’s why some contractors consistently win higher-ticket jobs…

And others get stuck competing on price.
