Another fully custom challenge coin completed, this time for Pittsburgh Paramedics Technical Rescue.
This piece uses a custom rescue-style shape with bold blue, black, white, and silver detailing throughout.
One side features the City of Pittsburgh Emergency Medical Services emblem at the center, surrounded by the words “PARAMEDIC,” “CITY OF PITTSBURGH EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES,” and “RESCUE.” The layered blue and white medical design gives the center a strong EMS identity, while the polished metal and black enamel create a clean, high-contrast finish.
The reverse highlights Pittsburgh Paramedics Technical Rescue with a much more detailed illustrated scene. A rescue technician is shown working above a technical rescue setup, surrounded by specialized equipment, rigging, medical gear, city elements, and an EMS Star of Life. The bright orange border helps frame the artwork and gives the reverse side a completely different look while still tying the full piece together.
The combination of custom shape, recessed enamel, raised metal lettering, polished silver details, and detailed rescue imagery makes this coin feel more like a miniature piece of artwork than a standard challenge coin.
This is a great example of how we can take a specialized unit and build the entire design around what they actually do, incorporating department identity, equipment, job function, city references, and unit-specific details into one custom piece.
