A critical SharePoint vulnerability—CVE-2025-53770—is under mass exploitation, allowing unauthenticated attackers to execute remote code on internal servers. The exploit, dubbed ToolShell, has already compromised hundreds of systems, including U.S. government networks such as the Nuclear Weapons Agency.

No authentication is required.
Severity has been rated rated 9.8/10.
State-sponsored exploitation is linked to China.
It can allow attackers to escalate privileges and move laterally across networks.

Federal agencies—including CISA, FBI, and NSA—have issued a joint advisory warning that Iranian state-sponsored hackers may target U.S. water treatment plants and other critical infrastructure.

Many of these systems are still exposed online with default or no passwords.
