🚨 Your cloud storage is secretly setting you up for total data loss.

Most people think having OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox means their files are backed up.

Plot twist: It’s not.

Syncing is not safeguarding. If ransomware hits your laptop, or someone accidentally deletes a critical folder, that "sync" feature will cheerfully copy the damage straight to the cloud in seconds.

By the time you realize your 30-day version history window has closed, your data is gone for good. Cloud storage is built for collaboration; true disaster recovery requires a real backup plan (think the 3-2-1 rule).

Don't wait until disaster strikes to find out your safety net has massive holes.

Read the full article in the first comment to find out why OneDrive isn't enough and how to bulletproof your data today. 👇

Many of us treat OneDrive or Google Drive as our ultimate safety net, but there’s a catch! 🛟

File sync and cloud backup do two completely different jobs.

Mixing them up can leave your data exposed:

📁 Cloud Storage (like OneDrive): Built for real-time collaboration and easy access.

The catch: If you accidentally delete a folder locally, it vanishes from the cloud, too. If ransomware hits, those encrypted files sync right up.

🛡️ Cloud Backup: Built for disaster recovery.

The catch (or rather, the perk!): It creates independent, version-controlled, and recoverable copies away from your live workspace.

In short: Syncing keeps you working together; backup keeps you in business. 💡

Are you relying on sync or a true backup to protect your files?

Your phone system has one job now: work exactly the same at a desk, at a kitchen table, and in an airport.

Most business phone systems still assume everyone is sitting in the same building. That assumption is what's costing you money.

Here's how the math actually shakes out when a business moves to VoIP.

What disappears:
Per-line rental on unused extensions. Long-distance billing. Maintenance on copper lines. The separate conferencing subscription. Fees to physically move a phone.

What stops happening:
Forwarding the office line to a personal cell, and then giving clients that cell number, and then getting called on it at 9pm on a Saturday forever.

What starts happening:
One number that rings wherever the person is. Voicemail that arrives as text. A new hire who's live in ten minutes instead of two weeks.

For most small and mid-sized businesses that lands around a 30% reduction. Not because VoIP is magic, but because you stop buying hardware, minutes, and workarounds separately.

The part vendors skip: VoIP runs on your internet connection. If that connection is unreliable, you have not saved money. You have made your phones worse and cheaper. Before anyone signs anything, check your actual bandwidth during business hours, not at 7am, and make sure voice traffic gets priority over the guy streaming the game in the break room.

Get that right and it's one of the few upgrades that costs less than what it replaces.

Try this today: open your last phone invoice and count the charges you can't explain in one sentence. That number is your starting point.

💥 Some cybersecurity myths need to be DEBUNKED.

Our time at the Cybersecurity Summit Detroit reinforced an important lesson: cybersecurity assumptions can be just as dangerous as vulnerabilities.

“We’re too small to be a target.”
“We're safe. We have backups.”
“Cybersecurity is expensive.”

Check how our team breaks down these common misconceptions and what businesses should consider instead.

We came. We connected. We gathered invaluable insights. 🧠

At Wizcom, we believe that innovation isn't just built in the office, it’s accelerated through active collaboration.

Our team attended The Official Cybersecurity Summit on August 18, and we didn’t just sit in the audience, we dove straight into the deep end of innovation.

Look at them in action:🔥

Scott, our CTO, engaged in high-level discussions with J.D. Miller (SVP, Community Event Programming at CyberRisk Alliance).

Sal, our Senior Software Engineer, dived deep into GRC (Governance, Risk, and Compliance) with Enida Metaj (Cyber Compliance Lead Auditor at Rockwell Automation).

We are obsessed with bringing this caliber of knowledge back to our team and clients.

There is so much more to share from these interactions. Keep an eye out as we break down the top takeaways in our upcoming posts!

What if AI isn't coming for your job, but for the parts of your job you shouldn't have been doing in the first place?

For years, we've asked whether AI will replace human expertise.

With decades of experience in technology and innovation, our CTO, Scott VanCoppenolle, invites us to look at the AI conversation from a different perspective.

The more interesting question is:

What can an experienced professional accomplish with AI that they couldn't accomplish as efficiently without it?

From troubleshooting networks to analyzing data, from repetitive documentation to searching through endless PDFs, AI can take on the heavy lifting while humans focus on what technology can't replace: judgment, context, experience, and people.

And there's an important distinction here:

AI doesn't replace expertise. It extends it.

In his latest article, Scott explores where AI actually fits into the workplace, and why the future may be less about humans vs. AI and more about humans who know how to use AI vs. those who don't.

👇Read the full article to see why he thinks that's a future worth embracing.

Let’s be honest: how much of your workday is spent on tedious, repetitive tasks that don’t actually require your unique expertise? In my latest article, I share why the fear of AI taking our jobs misses the point. AI isn't coming for your career—it's coming for your busywork. ...

Zero Trust Isn't a Product. It's a Better Way to Think About Security.

You don't need to be a cybersecurity expert to understand Zero Trust.

Think of it this way:

The old security model trusted people because they were inside the network.

But today, your employees work from home, your data lives in the cloud, and your applications are accessed from almost everywhere.

The wall is gone.

Zero Trust replaces “trust because you're inside” with a much simpler principle:

Trust nothing by default. Verify every request.

And it doesn't mean buying an expensive new platform.

For many small and mid-sized businesses, Zero Trust starts with practical steps you may already have access to:

→ Enable MFA
→ Keep devices updated
→ Review who has access to what
→ Remove unnecessary permissions
→ Use SSO where it makes sense
→ Have a plan for compromised accounts

The bigger question isn't “Do we need Zero Trust?”

It's:

“How much risk are we carrying today?”

We broke Zero Trust down in plain English, and created a free IT Risk Score to help you find out where your organization stands.
